Make your way to the climbing mecca of El Potrero Chico just outside of Monterrey and spend a day on an introduction to multi-pitch climbing course! This guided program in one of Mexico’s most sought-after climbing regions is sure to improve your rock climbing skill set and show you plenty of unbelievable views along the way!
El Potrero Chico has become the go-to destination for unforgettable single- and multi-pitch climbs in Northern Mexico. Located within two miles of Hidalgo and about an hour drive from Monterrey, the limestone monoliths and cliffs that constitute the area can reach as high as 2,000 feet, making for mouth-watering days of satisfying ascents. Many of the climbs are Grade 5.7 up through 5.12.
Your program is designed around a multi-pitch course to give you both a satisfying experience and practical training on challenging and inspiring slabs. From bolted big wall climbing to moderate multi-pitches, the sharp rock accommodates all types of climbers. This is a particularly great place for single-pitchers looking to transition into longer ascents and progress to new heights in their career. Our day last roughly eight hours, focusing on classic multi-pitch techniques like rappelling, belay set up, movement along big walls, and so much more.
Common routes include Time Wave Zero – with a whopping 23 pitches, Yankee Clipper, and Estrellita. Most of the sport climbing here is accompanied by remarkable views that include the surround spires and cliffs, as well as nearby Hidalgo. The palm trees on top of the limestone adds an added level of aesthetic intrigue. This is definitely considered one of the best places to climb for its stunning scenery, volume of high profile climbs, and wide array of sport climbing levels.
You should have some climbing experience and be prepared for some serious multi-pitch climbs. Climbers should be in good physical shape and have the mental fortitude to match. I will ensure a fun and satisfying day for the entire group and design a program around the needs and abilities of everyone participating.
Climbing can be done year round, though the most comfortable seasons are fall, winter, and spring. Summer can be hot during the day, so early morning and late afternoon programs are the most popular and satisfying.
If you wanted to extend your trip, or had a specific area of instruction or climbing you wanted to experience, please let me know. I would be happy to tailor a trip around your personal climbing circumstances, and we have plenty of options for fulfilling ascents in El Potrero Chico.

Rock Guide
I am an AMGA-certified rock climbing guide and have been guiding all over the US, from Colorado to Alaska, for 10 years. I currently split my time between Potrero Chico in Mexico and Yosemite National Park.
I am a strong believer in "living the dream" and recently retired from ski patrol to devote all my time to my true passion: climbing. I enjoy climbing both with Yosemite's biggest stars and first time climbers.
Among the achievements I am most proud of are 1-day ascents of El Capitan and Half-Dome in Yosemite. Contact me for an amazing climbing experience in Mexico or the US!

Mark is an amazing guide. He was prompt on arrival to our place early am, had a great, fun, upbeat attitude all day, and was completely safe. He timed our day perfectly and gave great beta for the cruxes

Mark always puts big emphasize on developing and refining my own climbing skills rather than just pulling me up the mountain. He always finds the right balance between safety and speed and never sacrifices the fun part while keeping the seriousness of the undertaking in mind. He is a very skillful guide and fun to have around
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
