Description

Make the transition from the resort to the backcountry on a two-day introductory course in Grand Teton National Park near Jackson Hole! This introductory program spends a weekend teaching you the basics of ski touring in the rugged and snowy landscape of the Tetons, bringing you one step closer to becoming a certified powder hound!

The Teton Mountains of Wyoming are a sight to behold, with several peaks exceeding 3,500 meters in a sharp incline from Jackson Hole. The rise from valley floor to mountain top is a unique feature of this Rocky Mountain subrange, causing it to receive its precipitation in the form of snow during the winter season.

You couldn’t ask for a better location to call your classroom for a weekend of practical instruction in backcountry skiing. You will discover the never-ending allure of untouched powder on a two-day course designed for athletes ready to make the move from the resort out into the mountains away from the piste. The first day will consist of an evening session that includes pre-trip planning, what and how to pack, how to prepare for the out-of-bounds elements, and so much more.

The second day will put you in the snow of Grand Teton National Park for a tangible lesson in the mountains. By the time your program is finished, we will have covered everything from route selection and track setting to assessing ski conditions, travel techniques, and terrain options. You will receive training across a number of topics that will empower you as a skier.

You can expect ascents and descents on classic Teton lines, allowing you to practice what you are learning for a well-rounded education. The course is structured to prepare you for more ambitious objectives the next time you ski outside the resort boundaries.

While this is an introductory course, you should be a proficient skier who is ready to face the challenges and obstacles of the backcountry. This includes a high level of physical fitness and an ability to hike about 1,000 meters in a day. We will reach into our wealth of experience and knowledge to make sure you have a satisfying and meaningful program that will get you excited to continue into the backcountry.

I had a great day and a great experience

Keala

Joel was a great climbing guide! I was nervous climbing outside since it’s been awhile but the guide was extremely good with hearing my concerns and adapted to help me feel comfortable. We started climbing on a low grade and then worked our way to harder levels. I also didn’t feel comfortable leading outside so my guide (Joel) did that as well. Also, there is so much to climb at red rock that without a guide it would be really hard to figure out the routes. I had such a great time!! It’s so beautiful out there and the whole experience was a lot of fun. I definitely recommend this company and Joel as a guide!
