The course combines interactive classroom with sessions to help you learn how to make good decisions in avalanche terrain.
During the course we will focus on several things, including terrain recognition; types of avalanche problems; travel strategies; understanding human factors; the influence of weather; companion rescue skills including use of the transceiver, probe, and shovel; tour planning; snow pit testing and analysis; and use of the AIARE Decision Making Framework.
The exact location of where the course will take place on Mount Washington will depend on several factors. Those factors include weather conditions, snow conditions and the skiing abilities of the group.
It is important that participants on this trip can ski at a minimum intermediate level. You should also be in good physical condition as well.
To join us on this adventure, just send a request. We look forward to guiding you. We also offer a one day, introductory level course on Mount Washington, which you can enjoy here.
Introductions, complete registration paperwork, introduction to terrain, avalanche problems, human factors, planning, and preparation.
Meet to review tour plans and decision-making framework. Travel/work on companion rescue scenarios, terrain selection, weather and snowpack observations, and travel techniques. At the end of the day, we meet to debrief the day and course.
Typically the third day is a more extended tour in which we apply the knowledge obtained throughout the course.

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
