Calling all interested mountaineers to Illiniza Norte! Over the course of 2 days we will head to the top of one of Ecuador’s most famous mountains!
Illiniza Norte is located in the center of the country, close to the Cotopaxi Mountain and the Quilotoa Loop. The region is known for its breathtaking peaks and is perfect for intermediate mountaineers!
We will begin this trip by picking you up from your designated location and then ascending about 800 meters in around 3-4 hours on the first day. This will take us to the refuge and we will be sure to enjoy a tasty and early dinner once finished with this leg of the hike, as we will be waking up early the following morning to reach the summit. The following day, we will leave at dawn in order to complete our fantastic adventure. To enjoy the sunrise atop the rugged cliffs, we will climb up approximately 400 meters to the top.
This trip is ideal for those getting into mountaineering, but who have never gotten the chance to summit more than 5,000 meters. So if you have an intermediate level and an interest in familiarizing yourself with high altitude climbs, then this program is ideal for you! This trip is available to private and public groups, and we offer a very personalized guide ratio of 2 clients per guide in order to ensure that everyone receives proper support on the climb.
So, would you like to summit Illiniza Norte? Then contact us now and let’s start planning an unforgettable adventure.
We will pick you up early in the morning at one of our designated pick up points and then transport you by private shuttle to La Virgen (approx. 3.950 m / 12,959 ft). From there, we will ascend to Refugio Nuevos Horizontes (approx. 4.750 m / 15,584 ft), which will take us approximately 3 – 4 hours. Once finished, we will enjoy an early dinner, and rest.
We will begin our ascent to Iliniza Norte at around 4 a.m. And after 2 – 3 hours we will reach the summit. After marveling at the view from the top, we will descend 3-4 hours to get back to the shuttle so that you can return to your starting location. On the drive back we will take you to enjoy a nice lunch in a restaurant.

As passionate mountaineer and with almost 20 years of guiding experience, I worked with clients from all over the world. Each tour is a unique experience and I will pleased to guide you to the marvellous summits of Ecuador and South America. My journeys have allowed me to guide and summit several mountains in Peru, like Alpamayo, Chopicalqui & Tocllaraju amongst others and to experience some mountain climbing in the Alps of Austria and Italy.
I’m based in Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador’s famous piece of heaven, where we run together with my Austrian girlfriend a small tour operator and a consulting office.
Continuous improvement and keeping up with the State of the Art is our mission:in 2017, I completed the IFMGA certification and, recently, in 2018, I received the National guide certification from the ministry of Tourism.
President of Baños Trail Running Club, I run every week with my team. My achievement of 2018 : Finishing 1st of my category for the 100km Ruco Ultra Trail.
I’m looking forward to exploring our beautiful mountains together with you.

The trip was great and our guide Jaime was very professional and got us safely to the peak and back again. Really was a great experience. The only thing that could have been better was the information before the trip. With so many platforms to communicate (email, explore-share chatting system, WhatsApp with several different agents) it was hard to keep track of where I should reply and who I should be asking questions. I also missed information on recommendations for acclimatisation before the trip. Luckily we read up on it ourselves and prepared accordingly.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
