Maltatal is a beautiful valley in the Hohe Tauern mountain range, in the Austrian Alps. The valley has many waterfalls, providing an amazing world of frozen waterfalls during the winter.
When winter and cold arrive, waterfalls and smaller rigs descending into the valleys freeze. They form the perfect frozen land that is a true paradise for ice climbing lovers.
Ice climbing is the most technical version of mountaineering. It takes place in a surreal and ephemeral environment where only a great experience can make our projects possible. It is important to be aware and in control of the risks. In this way we can be safe in this unusual environment, to practice this unique discipline.
To start moving properly in this environment, I offer a full-immersion course, which will take place at the site that will present the best ice and waterfall conditions. I propose here Maltatal, in Austria. But if the conditions are not ideal, we have other options, such as Cogne, Val Aurina, Sappada or Gondo.
For this very technical course, participants are expected to have basic knowledge of climbing and safety techniques.
Tempted to learn ice climbing? Then request to book this trip and join me for 2 wonderful days in Maltatal, you won’t regret it! Or, if you want to go to Italy, I also offer a 2-day ice climbing course in Val Aurina.
The objective of this first day is to get to know the equipment and set the basic techniques.
Today we introduce more advanced and effective climbing techniques and put them to practice.

poor weather limited the experience. We had hoped for a guide more familiar with the area, our first and last night were in a remote place requiring an hours walk. We only learnt about this on the day of departure. otherwise no problems
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
