Description

The Hyalite canyon in the state of Montana is an exceptional place for ice climbing.

Located on the fringes of Yellowstone, the Hyalite canyon offers some of the most spectacular ice walls you will ever see. And on this 2 day introductory level ice climbing course you will get the chance to climb those walls.

Because this is an introductory course, you do not require previous ice climbing experience. However, you should be in good physical condition, as ice climbing can be a demanding activity.

The first day of the course will involve lessons in a variety of important techniques and skills any successful ice climber should know. Some examples of those techniques include the following.

  • How to properly identify and put on ice climbing equipment from harnesses and helmets to crampons

  • Belay communications

  • How to properly tie knots and hitches including a double fisherman’s knot, a clove hitch and many more

  • Rappelling techniques

  • Proper top rope anchor placement

On the second day of the course you will learn even more important ice climbing skills and techniques. You will also put what you’ve learned on the first day into practice on the Hyalite canyon’s illustrious ice walls.

Ice climbing is a thrilling experience. But it is an experience that requires a great deal of careful preparation and proper technique. As a result, we feel a course like this is crucial not just to have a great time during the course itself, but in future ice climbing endeavours you may choose to have.

So send us a request, and let us teach you how to ice climb in some of the most amazing ice walls in the United States.

Will was great wise and fun to spend the day with.

Phillip

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Lucie

All perfect

Amanda

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
