Head to a lesser traveled part of stunningly scenic Peru on your next holiday and enjoy a 7-day Huayhuash trek!
Located just four hours south of Huaraz, the Cordillera Huayhuash Reserved Zone boasts plenty of pristine mountain scenery and wilderness to explore!
Our adventure begins after we meet in Huaraz. Prior to hiking, we will head on a tour around the city to visit some local communities.
Five percent of all trip fees go to a charitable foundation that helps support these communities, so you will have a chance to see what you are supporting and meet the people who you are helping out.
After the tour, we will return to Huaraz and the real adventure begins. The following day, we will drive south and visit the Inca ruins of Huanucoviejo or Huanucopampa.
Here, we will learn a little bit more about these incredible people and how their influence continues in modern day in Peru.
After visiting the site, we will continue on to the trailhead and strike out into the wilderness.
Unlike many other treks in the area, this one is an abridged version and appropriate for less experienced trekkers. None of the days will be overly difficult and we will remain under 5,000 meters.
Each day, we will climb from our camp in the valley up over a stunning mountain pass. From the saddle of each pass, we will enjoy phenomenal views out over the surroundings, including Huayhuash peak.
Along with incredible mountain passes, we will head through verdant pastures, stunning valleys and pristine mountain lakes, including the unique green lake of Soltero Cocha.
By the time our adventure is finished and we return to Huaraz, you will already be planning your next epic Andean adventure.
So what are you waiting for? Book now for this fun, scenic and exciting 7-day Huayhuash Trek!

After meeting at your hotel first thing in the morning, we will transfer to the Union District (4 hours) and visit the Incan ruins at Huanucoviejo or Huanucopampa. After exploring these, we will go on to Baños, where there are some Incan hot springs and Queropalca (3841m), where we will camp.
We will hike along the Carhuacocha River, passing through highland pastures and enjoying excellent views as we go. After about three hours, we will arrive at Carhuacocha (4200m), where we will set up camp.
We will hike up to Carhuac Pass, enjoying incredible views of the mountains and lakes in Huayhuash, before descending down the other side. After three hours, we will arrive at Mitucocha, where we will camp.
We will start the day by hiking up to Lake Mitucocha, before ascending steeply up to Cacanan Pass (4750m), which takes about four hours. From here, we will spend another three hours hiking down to Rondoy Camp.
We will start the day by ascending up to Sambunya Pass (4750m), where we will enjoy some of the best views of the entire trip. From here, we will hike down past the green lake of Soltero Cocha and on to Jahuacocha, where we will enjoy more great views and set up camp.
We will spend the morning hiking out of the wilderness and back toward civilization. After we arrive at the town of Llamac, we will transfer back to Huaraz and say goodbye.

We had such an amazing time on this Trek! From the beginning to the end we had wonderful service through “Wild Huayhuash - Tomas Operator”. It is an amazing, beautiful, take your breath away hike. The guides are knowledgeable, kind, and extremely helpful. We had guide/cook Rosmel, guide Angel, operators Edgar and Tomas. Rosmel made us food every day(breakfast, lunch, snacks (popcorn), and dinner), woke us up to a fresh cup of tea every morning in our tent, and guides us through the first few days of our hike. He was like Superman carrying our lunch on his back every day of the trek (think heavy food in pots, with juice). Angel was the guide the rest of the way through the trek and was also very kind and professional. He was funny, paced us well through the hard sections, and let us have breaks whenever we needed. Both Rosmel & Angel were always working to get us to the best viewpoints, and best camping spots first, before the other groups. They also both helped when I had an asthma attack during the trek. From the operator side, Tomas and Edgar were amazing. Going through all the information we would need, allowing us to leave extra things in their office, allowing us to rest and shower in one of their rooms at no extra charge when we got back from the trek, and Edgar helped us find a map of Huayhuash so we could document our journey when we got back (finding a map of Huayhuash in Huaraz was not easy). This was a well put together group, and always seemed to be one step ahead of the other Huayhuash trekking groups. I highly recommend!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
