Take on the Tahoe Rim Trail on a backpacking and hiking trip around the iconic Sierra Nevada and Carson Mountains of the Western United States! This guided program through California and Nevada takes the best aspects of the iconic trail and turn it into an immersive four-day hike that boasts a challenging itinerary across enchanting and symbolic terrain!
The Tahoe Rim Trail is a grueling and aesthetically remarkable 165-mile journey across infamous mountain ranges in both Northern California and Nevada: the Sierra Nevada and Carson, respectively. Within the footpaths and peaks surrounding Lake Tahoe sits some of the most evocative scenery in the United States, including streams, meadows, valleys, and forests. With high-altitude summits dominating the skyline, any hike around Lake Tahoe is guaranteed to be awe-inspiring.
The original itinerary of the Tahoe Rim Trail requires 15 days to complete the trek, but we have created an expedited program that gives you the full wilderness experience in just four days and three nights. Backpacking from one of the various trail heads, we can take on some of the most notable legs of the hike for a practical vacation that doesn’t require more than two weeks to complete.
We can craft a few different itineraries, all featuring a substantial amount of hiking (from 35 to 40 miles) and highlighting the various features of the territory. The trail ranges from 6,240 feet in elevation at Tahoe City to 10,388 feet at Relay Peak, which includes some portions of the Pacific Crest Trail.
We will set out early in the morning and try to maintain a steady pace while trekking along the beautiful landscape. The immersion into nature will allow you to disconnect and take part in a healthy excursion with other like-minded travelers. We will hike anywhere from seven miles to 16 miles a day, covering a significant change in elevation at numerous points of the trip. Nights spent at camp will enhance your experience, allowing us to take off in the morning and set a firm goal for our day’s journey.
Four days exploring this vast terrain will give you an immense personal attachment to the land, inviting you to return to complete another segment of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Choosing a four-day program also allows you the versatility to single out parts of the trail you want to include or avoid.
Because of the different legs of the hike, we can choose to backpack in a section that fits our preferred needs and abilities. We can select from more than ten trail heads, such as Mt. Rose, Tahoe Falls, Eagle Falls, and Kingsbury Grade, among others. Each has their own slice of wilderness heaven, so let me know what kind of trip you desire and I will pick the best itinerary available.
Regardless of which trail head you begin from, all participants should have a high level of fitness, previous backpacking experience, and the mental fortitude to complete a sustained multi-day trek. We can coordinate what to bring as the expedition approaches to help streamline the process, keeping your pack as light and manageable as possible without compromising some of the necessary and vital equipment.
Book this incredible four-day hike of the Tahoe Rim Trail NOW and enjoy a classic backpacking journey on a shortened itinerary in the vast and relentless beauty of the Lake Tahoe wilderness in California and Nevada!
For the greenhorn hikers among us, we can also venture out and see the foliage of Lake Tahoe on a half-day hike!

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
