Soaring above the pristine park in the Chic-Choc Mountains is Mont Jacques-Cartier, which at 1,268 meters above sea level, is the highest mountain in the south of Quebec.
The Chic-Choc Mountains run 95 kilometers east to west, and are an extension to the greater Appalachian Mountains, that stretch out into the northeast of the United States.
The height of Mont Jacques-Cartier also makes it the tallest peak among the Canadian Appalachians.
We’ll be exploring the Canadian wilderness along a section of the immense International Appalachian Trail, a hiking trail that stretches 1,900 miles.
The mountain is held within the Gaspésie National Park, an area of pristine beauty located in the inland of the Gaspésie peninsula. The park is calved into two by the Sainte-Anne River, with the Chic-Choc Mountains to the west and the McGerrigle Mountains to the east.
Topped with alpine tundra spreading outwards across the slopes, one of the main wildlife features of the area is the woodland caribou, one of the last remaining herds in the south.
The trail is relatively nontechnical, which connects the Forillon National Park in Gaspésie to the Appalachian Trail at Katahdin mountain.
Get in touch to reserve your place in the Canadian Appalachians and hike to the summit of Mont Jacques-Cartier, rising from a national park in Quebec.
