Hike the Chattooga River Trail near Atlanta, Full day

If you’re looking to escape into the pristine natural world, look no further than the Chattooga River Trail. It stretches for 37.5 miles and lies in northeastern Georgia, very close to North and South Carolina’s borders, on the edge of Nantahala National Forest.

Although many people break the hike up into several days and camp, a section of this trail makes for a fantastic day hike. You can choose how much ground to cover to make the journey as leisurely or challenging as you like.

You’re likely to see a waterfall or two on the trek. In fact, the Chattooga River Trail has been deemed the “Waterfall Trail” because five waterfalls can be admired in the course of the path. Also keep an eye out for pretty Hemlock trees.

This area is blissfully free of litter and other disturbances by man, which makes the trek all the more peaceful. You won’t find many places so clean and secluded that are only a couple hours from Atlanta.

Whether this excursion is more strenuous or relaxing is up to you. Either way, a trek on the gorgeous Chattooga River Trail is a getaway that will leave you feeling refreshed.
