If you are an experienced rider and you would like to expand or refresh your splitboarding and backcountry skills, this course is for you!
The High Tatras are a group of mountains laying along the border of northern Slovakia and southern Poland. They stand within the Tatras Mountains, the highest sub-range in the Carpathians. The High Tatras include 29 peaks over 2,500 meters, most of them located in the Slovak side, within the Tatra National Park (738km2).
While this is a 2-day training, it begins with a pre-course briefing on Friday afternoon, during which we will review the basics of off-piste splitboarding, avalanche management, and backcountry equipment.
On Saturday and Sunday, the course will be held on field, in the High Tatras mountains. The first day, I will explain some technical concepts, such as stability test in snow, the use of an avalanche transceiver, how to safely control descents, and how to stop a fall on a steep slope, among others. During the second day, we will put these skills into practice, riding across the High Tatras’ best skiing areas, with amazing views to magnificent peaks, pine forests, glacial lakes, and vast alpine valleys. At the end of the training, participants will receive a certificate.
I will take a minimum of 3 people and a maximum of 6 on this course. If necessary, I will be happy to tailor the program to guests’ time availability and preferences.
Progress your splitboarding skills and increase your safety in the backcountry. Book this course now!
In case you are interested, I also offer a similar ski touring course. If you are looking for other training opportunities in the area, I recommend the weekend avalanche course.

Mountain Guide
I was born in Poprad and I live, work and relax in the High Tatras. I have been climbing in this region for 15 years both in summer and winter.
Since 2001 I am a professional rescuer with a completed Bachelor education in Urgent Medical Care. Furthermore, I work in The Experts Mountain Rescue Service (in High Tatras) as an avalanche specialist.
In 2009, after passing the entrance examination for mountain guiding, I started the roundabout course. In April 2010, I became a mountain guide aspirant in the National Association of Mountain Guides of the Slovak Republic.
In 2011, during the final course in Chamonix - Mont Blanc (France) I successfully completed the course of mountain guide during four days of tests, under the strict supervision of Technical Commission NAHVSR instructors. Since then, I am a mountain guide with the IFMGA / UIAGM international license.
Thanks to this job (and hobby) I am pleased to expand the horizons of my clients and share with them my knowledge and experience as a mountain guide.

We spent 2 days with Pavol as he introduced us to ice climbing. Upon meeting him, we were pleased with his professionalism and his impressive experiences climbing around the world. It didn't take long for us to realise his expertise on the mountain, as well as his passion and down to earth attitude. Over 2 days, in 2 different locations, we got learn the basics of ice climbing on some serious ice falls. He gave us advice on techniques and strategies to get us climbing higher and more efficiently. The whole time Pavol made us feel very safe and in control, as daunting as ice climbing may be. In the end we had a great time and learnt a lot, and he left us hungry for more. He definitely showed us this is a sport and passion we can keep following. We hope to climb with Pavol again next time we visit Europe.
