Description

Join me for a great ice climbing tour of 1 or more days in the beautiful High Tatras mountain range in Poland. These tours are suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced climbers.

Starting from the city of Zakopane, I will take you to enjoy amazing ice climbing in the High Tatras. Zakopane is located in the extreme south of the country, at the foot of the High Tatras, near the border with Slovakia.

Ice climbing in this area is ideal for beginners and for intermediate level climbers. It offers an easy approach and short falls. However, there are also several great spots with multi pitch routes for experienced climbers.

I take up to 4 beginner level climbers in each tour, 2 for intermediate level, and I will take only 1 climber for an advanced level ice climbing tour.

The adventure starts the minute we start walking to the ice falls, with beautiful nature and wilderness and breathtaking views! Ice climbing in the High Tatras is truly unique. We can climb the same line several times, but every time we climb will be different, and that’s one of the things I enjoy the most about ice climbing.

Besides, the views in the Tatras, in its open valleys, are truly amazing. Ice climbing usually takes place in closed valleys, so the views we have here are quite unique, and so beautiful!

I will take to discover some wonderful ice climbing spots in the area. The one I enjoy the most is near the Morse Oko mountain hut, by the lake. It has 150m routes, with 2 main couloirs, ideal for multi pitch climbing.

On the approach to this valley (10 km), we find the White Water Valley, with about 10 ice lines**.** We can also mix it with some nice goulottes climbing. Other spots that I like include Dolina Wielicka, Dolina Białej Wody and Dolina Staroleśna.

Even when the avalanche risk level is high, I can take you to several spots where we can climb safely.

If you want to join me on a tour for several days, we can either stay in the Morse Oko Hut or we can be based in Zakopane and move every day to a different spot. Bear in mind we can also approach the ice fall with our skis.

I can also take you on an ice climbing tour combining the High Tatras in Poland and Slovakia, if you are interested.

If you want to join me on a great ice climbing tour, send your request now and book your trip. I will be happy to guide you in the fantastic High Tatras icefalls.

Mountain Guide

I am an IFMGA certified guide. I was born in 1980, in the flattest area of a flat country: Poland. There were not any mountains around home. But I was very lucky! My physics teacher, a great alpinist and person, inspired me to climb and discover the mountains. Since then, I have climbed amazing peaks, in spectacular places like Patagonia, Canada, Pakistan, Greenland and US.

In 2002, 15 years ago, I made a decision that changed my life. I decided to quit my job as a sewage engineer and fly to Alaska. In four weeks I made four ascents. Then, I moved to Yosemite, in the US. That's when my life started to revolve entirely around climbing. I spent winter climbing in Patagonia, the US or Canada, spring in Yosemite, and summer in Greenland or Pakistan. My life followed the sun and the snow.

Then, I decided to become a profesional, and got my IFMGA certification. Today I divide my time between Poland an Chamonix, France. I enjoy guiding and practicing almost every type of climbing. And I love spending time with my beautiful family, more than anything. I have a baby son, a beautiful daughter and the best partner ever: my wife.

Please contact me if you want to enjoy a great and safe tour in the mountains. We can talk and plan together the best trip for you!

Oliver

Unfortunately the weather did not allow any peak ascent - winter arrived earlier than expected in Vysoke Tatra (snow above 1400m)... Maciek, however, found perfect rocks for me besides Popradske Pleso (Lake Poprad). Well, the name promises water, and indeed, we started our trip with some drizzeling and wet slabs which made the pitches more demanding than expected (for me :-). But during the final pitches the sun came out and made the climbing on the granite slabs a pure pleasure. Thanks, Maciek, for giving me an appetizer for a longer stay in the region!
