Come with me to enjoy the stunning reds, oranges and browns of the changing leaves in the Hayedo de Tejera Negra, Spain. This beautiful place is ideal for an autumn hike.
The Hayedo de Tejera Negra is located in Guadalajara, just 2 hours away from Madrid. It is part of the Macizo de Ayllón and, since 2011, it is protected under the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara Natural Park. It is home to hundreds of different tree species, such as yews, holly trees and birches, perfect for fall sightseeing. And, if we are lucky, we may even see foxes, roe deers and/or golden eagles.
For this adventure, we’ll meet at Nuevos Ministerios and ride up to Cantalojas to access the park. On this day, we’ll cover the two routes that roam the Hayedo, the Senda de Carretas and Senda de Robledal. We’ll also explore some of the typical architecture of the place and the local cuisine.
On this 1-day hike, we will cover 12 kilometers. Everyone is welcome to take part of this adventure! There’s no need for a particular fitness or skill level since we’ll be stopping along the way to learn about the flora, fauna and ecosystems of the place.

Pedro was so knowledgeable about the area, and graciously answered all our questions, even those unrelated to the hike. He was very kind in picking us up from Madrid for a small fee. He also took a bunch of photos of my husband and I during the trek, which I really appreciated since those are our only pictures together from our trip to Spain. I'd definitely recommend Pedro to anyone traveling to Madrid and interested in experiencing nature outside the city.
