Description

Spend a few hours exploring the magical  Leiðarendi Cave with one of our experienced guides. There you’ll be able to learn more about the fascinating geological history of this volcanic area and see a different side of  Iceland.

Please keep in mind that this tour is run only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

We’ll pick you up from your accommodation in Reykjavik and drop you around 150 meters from the cave. What we refer to as a cave is actually a lava tube under the ground. To gain access you’ll walk down a steep entrance. It is around 900 meters in length and formed more than 2,000 years ago from volcanic activity.

It’s quite dark down there, so you’ll get a helmet and a headlight to use so you can see better. There are tighter sections where you might need to crawl or crouch down. In general, though, it’s pretty comfortable.

When you are inside the lava tube, you’ll be able to take in all the stalactites and drip stalagmites which are really beautiful and unique. The eruption left minerals in the lava and as a result, you’ll see lots of different colors in the walls of the cave.

Your guide will be on hand the whole way to give you interesting information about the cave, how it was formed and a little more about the geology.

This trip is an awesome way to see the underground volcanic terrain of Iceland. Get in touch today to secure your spot.

You might also like to combine your trip to Leiðarendi Cave with a horse riding portion and turn it into a full day trip.
