Description

Start your climbing career in the heart of California and join a half-day rock climbing program in Joshua Tree National Park! Set in a gorgeous protected setting that has become a symbol of the Western United States, this guided climbing trip will teach beginners the ropes of rock climbing while embarking on more challenging ascents for advanced and adventurous climbers!

Just two and a half hours to the east of Los Angeles and the Pacific Coast, Joshua Tree National Park is a well-known and historic location for tourists, travelers, and athletes, especially rock climbers. The multiple mountain ranges and dual desert biomes offer a wealth of natural wonder, all within an area bigger than the state of Rhode Island!

One of the biggest draws for budding alpinists and seasoned mountaineers alike is the geology. The ancient rock formations have been carved for hundreds of thousands of years, developing a variety of boulders, slabs, walls, and monoliths just waiting to be peaked. While the prized possessions of the park are the historic gneiss and igneous rock formations, the surrounding Joshua Trees which gave the park its name are a beautiful site from the climbs.

This is where you come in! Your program is designed to give you first-hand experience on all of this splendor, teaching you fundamental rock climbing principles to build a strong career in the sport. We will begin early in the morning to take advantage of prime climbing conditions. With a number of areas to visit in the park, you will be able to learn and practice in a location that is best suited for your personal abilities and needs.

From cracks, chimneys, slabs, and roofs, you will learn climbing technique and movement, equipment use and storage, and safety procedures and protocol. There are single-pitch lines, multi-pitch routes, and even bouldering spots for just about every difficulty and length. Each rock formation is unique, so we can accommodate complex and challenging routes as well as straight-forward single-pitches – the choice is yours!

With a half-day program, you can focus on the techniques and skills that you need the most. Your four hour adventure can include some hiking to reach great climbing spots, which will in turn boast incredible views of Joshua Tree’s nature. By the end of your course, you will have gained an important basis to improve your skill set and prepare you for more ambitious climbs.

This program is open to all types of rock climber. Beginners and advanced athletes can both benefit greatly from this half-day course. We will create a trip just for you that will most efficiently prepare you for the exciting climbs and ascents across the United States and the globe. You should have a basic fitness level to enjoy the program, as well as a general understanding of the physical nature of rock climbing.

So, what are you waiting for? Seize the day and spend a few hours rock climbing in the stunning Joshua Tree National Park NOW on a perfect half-day program that efficiently blends the California desert setting with a practical climbing course!

If you have a bit more time to spare, go all out and take an entire day with Mojave Guides climbing in Joshua Tree National Park!

Rock Climbing Instructor

Seth, the owner of Mojave Guides, has been a Joshua Tree resident since the Fall of 2003 to remain close to the National Park and its exceptional rock climbing.

His climbing career began about 12 years ago while living in Jackson Hole, WY. Obsessed from the beginning, he started to develop his skill set and gain experience the way good climbers do, by rock climbing!

By 2008 he had visited most of the famous climbing areas of the US and earned his first professional certification with the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA). Seth began his guiding career the same year, as a Trip Leader for Indiana Universities' Outdoor Adventures.

In 2010 he received an outdoor recreation and natural resource management degree from I.U. with a focus on rock climbing (yes, you can get a university degree for rock climbing!).

In 2013, following an intensive training period and subsequent 6-day exam, he was awarded the AMGA Rock Instructor Certification. This certification allows him to guide pretty much anything you want to climb in the park!

Today, Seth has worked with thousands of clients, from 5-year-olds to 75-year-olds through 10 different organizations based in 7 states.
