Description
Lying off the northern coast of Venezuela float the two islands of Trinidad and Tobago, with the latter resting to the northeast of Trinidad.
The Main Ridge mountain range runs through the spine of the island, and is cloaked in tropical rainforest.
For a top-quality exploration, the Gilpin Trace trail provides excellent access through the heart of ancient forest, dominated by breathtaking scenery.
The 2-hour trail is the most popular in the country, and is overall a quite flat and easy terrain to navigate. Established all the way back in 1776, the Main Ridge Forest Reserve is actually the oldest protected forest reserve in the world.
As you wander through the Main Ridge, glimpse the vibrant flora and fauna that spread out across the territory. Slithering snakes and lizards, geckos and soaring white-tailed sabrewing hummingbird, which is rare to the region.
Hanging bats and digging armadillos are also home to the island of Tobago, which despite its small size is a key spot for unique biodiversity.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area.
