Discover the landscapes of Denmark’s south coast with this 5-day hiking program along the Gendarmstien, or Gendarme Path, a natural trail that runs through picturesque scenery for 74 km. This trek starts in the town of Hoeruphav, in southern Denmark .
The path offers a unique hiking opportunity in one of the most beautiful coastal routes of the country. The trail is named after the former guards that patrolled the border between Denmark and Germany until 1950, inspecting the maritime trade. Each guard had his own fields to inspect, which were linked together by trails.
You will be following the coast most of the way, hiking for 3 days through a very diverse landscape with meadows, forests and bogs. Along the shores of the fjord we will find both a rich animal and plant life and many interesting habitats. We will be spending the night in organized bivouacs along the way.
The Gendarmstie Path is qualified as a Leading Quality Trail -Best of Europe. It is a great opportunity to discover another country and to enjoy varied scenery, between the sea and the forest.
This hike is accessible to any good walker. Actually, it is an easy first trek to test yourself before joining more technical ones, although it is mandatory to have previously participated in a similar activity. The trek does not include any particular difficulty, apart from the fact that you have to be able to carry your camping equipment for the day.
If you are interested in joining me on this trek, just send me a request. Check the date below, book your trip and join a group! We will spend a great time hiking along the beautiful landscapes of the Gendarmstien Path.
Car transport (carpooling) to Høruphav, Denmark. Transfer by bus to our starting point. Night in bivouac.

Hiking Guide
I have always been passionate about nature and discovering new places. My first hikes took me through the Alps, the Pyrenees and the landscapes of Corsica. I traveled the Highland trails in Scotland, Norway fjords and volcanic landscapes of Iceland. In the 2000s, I also moved towards mountaineering, that I practice as an amateur in the Belgian Alpine Club. In recent years, I have also been practicing ultra-trail running, an activity that allowed me to acquire some physical skills and gradually rethink my conception of hiking. Now, I'm moving towards a more "fast and light" concept: I take pleasure in linking up the kilometers and the height difference by traveling light in demanding environments.
In 2015, I decided to become a sports instructor so I could share my passion. I graduated as a Sports Hiking Instructor at the ADEPS/ Belgian Alpine Club. I am currently pursuing my training in order to obtain the equivalent of Accompagnateur en Moyenne Montagne (AMM) (French diploma). In my professional life, I am also an Industrial Engineer and I work as a Prevention Consultant in a company.
My values are: Have fun, discover, share, learn ... safe!
