Description

If you love freeriding as much as I do, you cannot miss the chance to spend a thrilling day in the Val Mesdì, at the heart of the wonderful Dolomites.

Located in northern Italy, this amazing tour in the Val Mesdi takes you through a unique valley in the Sella massif, crossing it from south east to northwest.

This freeriding paradise, protected as a UNESCO World Heritage, gives you the opportunity to enjoy a great skiing experience on the best slopes in the area. Despite being a popular descent, not many people have enough courage as to have a taste of Val Mesdì’s slopes. Therefore, this challenging trip is perfect for skiers who dare to enjoy a wild day in a remote paradise.

We will start this sensational day in Passo Pordoi at 2239m. Then we head to Sass Pordoi in a cable car and enjoy the magnificent view of this massif. The Sass Pardoi is also called the “Dolomites’ terrace” because of its particular shape. Once we get there, we will have a short ski descent before we start hiking across the plateau to reach the Boè refuge.

If we are lucky enough and the snow level isn’t too high, we might use only our ski boots to hike; otherwise, we will use skins. After a 45-minutes walk, we will reach the refuge,  where the starting point of the Val Mesdì await us.

This valley is truly amazing! A breathtaking descent will marvel you all the way down with its smashing walls, 600-meters cliffs and jagged towers. We will be able to feel the rush of the air in our faces while we ski down the cool steep terrain of the Val Mesdi.

The town of Colfosco, at the foot of the massif, will be the end of this spectacular freeriding tour. Once there, if we look back, we will be able to see the epic path we have left behind. By ski lift, we’ll go back to Passo Pordoi .

For this trip I can only take a maximum of 5 people. If you are traveling alone, feel welcome to join a group and to enjoy an unforgettable experience!

This is a safe tour and you don’t need to have previous freeride experience. However, in order to have a great time it’s highly recommended to feel comfortable in any kind of  slopes. It’s also mandatory to bring all the necessary equipment for this tour. In case you need it, you can also rent it from me. Please note you also need a good fitness level for a 45-minute hike on the snow.

If you find this trip tempting, send me a request to book this amazing freeriding tour and live a breathtaking experience in the heart of the Dolomites.

EQUIPMENT Freeriding skis and bindings are required and helmet is strongly suggested. Since it is a really classical and popular tour most of the times it is possible to do it with alpine skis and bindings, but in case snow is too deep, I always suggest to bring the proper equipment. Transceiver, shovel and probe can be provided by me if you don't have them.

Mountain Guide

I was born in Bozen and I have been living all my life long in Fassa Valley, Dolomites. That's why my native language is ladin, a reto-romanic language spoken around Sella.

My big passion besides traveling is mountains and guiding because I love to show the people the beauty of the mountains.

I was a member of the Italian National Alpine Ski from 1990 to 1997 when I became Ski Instructor. In 2009

I became an IFMAG Mountain guide. I guide in the Dolomites, Sarca valley, Sizialian vulcanoes, Ortles Cevedale area, and Sardinia.

What people are saying about Marika

Dawn

Marika was the perfect mountain guide and more. She personalised the trip for me and my family, made sure we were safe and enjoying ourselves, looked after us at the restaurant refuges, running ahead to grab a table, translating the menu and chatting to the staff for us! Could not have asked for more!!

Warren

Excellent morning on the via ferrata, Marika was very good guide and had a great knowledge of the area , would recommend this trip to anyone!

Quentin

Marika made those 3 days the best! She understood exactly what we wanted as beginners in back country skiers but still pushed us. The Dolomites are truly a World Wonder. Skiing in those settings far from the crows with the safety of a trained mountain guide… what else?

I couldn't recommend a climbing guide more highly. Marika is energic, friendly and gave us just what we were looking for, moderate multi-pitch climbing in beautiful settings in the Dolomites, followed each day by the best restaurants and bars. She knows everything about climbing, the routes and as a local, the history of the region. She was also meticulous with safety and kept us in line where needed. Marika met all of our expectations and more. You won't be disappointed when you climb with her.

Tanya

Our family with kids ages 5, 9 and 12 had a wonderful day with Marika at a via ferrata! She was amazing at catering to the needs of our 3 very different children including one who was feeling anxious. Our 5 year old was completely enamored with Marika & wanted to stay in Italy with her! In addition to being a lovely person I felt safe the entire time and she was appropriately cautious as you would want anyone to be with your children. Highly highly recommended!!
