The nature of Alaska is profound and immense. Not only is it the largest state within the United States, it has a daunting wilderness with a brutal landscape to match. For winter athletes of every denomination, Thompson Pass and the surrounding Chugach Mountains offer some of the most challenging big mountain skiing opportunities in a unique and remote setting. It is unlike any other place in the world, therefore the rewards more than justify the means.
Your program is the best way to immerse yourself in the amazing terrain of Alaska, known as “The Last Frontier.” Over the course of five days, you will ski your way through the backcountry of Alaska and discover a serene landscape that few will ever get the opportunity to see – let alone ski. If you are in search of big mountain skiing, then you have found the bastion of true ski touring here in the Chugach.
Originally pioneered by Doug Coombs in the mid-90s, this area is renowned for its skiing conditions for every type of skiing, including heliskiing, backcountry skiing, and even kite skiing. Incredibly enough, Thompson Pass is relatively easy to access, and the amalgamation of immaculate snow quality with mountain and glacier terrain makes this program a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Your program is all-inclusive, and even includes a heli-drop during the trip. We have more than enough time to tour the rare and pristine snow of Alaska while taking in some of the other perks of a wilderness excursion. Keep your eyes peeled for moose, eagles, and even the Northern Lights! Lodging, meals, and the technical gear are included, which means you just need to show up ready to ski tour.
For those interested in perhaps taking advantage of just a few days in the Chugach, I can craft a special guided program just for you. Let me know what your logistics and what you are interested in so we can work out the specifics of a private day tour.
This area is one of my favorite places in the world to ski. It would be my duty to share this incredible location with you and instill the same passion and care that I have for its huge mountains and incomparable runs. I will ensure you have a safe and satisfying Alaskan experience. Our program is one that you will never forget.
This program is perfect for intermediate advanced skiers and necessitates advanced proficiency in skiing. This includes a high level of fitness. You will be hiking and skiing 3,500 vertical feet a day with a possibility of more, so high endurance and mental fortitude are required.
Book this five-day ski touring extravaganza NOW and make Thompson Pass and the Alaskan wilderness YOUR favorite place to ski, too!
We can also try a more modest backcountry skiing program in Crested Butte and the Colorado Rockies](https://www.explore-share.com/trip/1-day-of-backcountry-skiing-in-crested-butte-colorado/)! Or we can hang up the skis and [rock climb out of the black in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison!

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
