Explore the highest peaks of the majestic mountain range Prenj with me, on this 2-day hike from Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Located at the centre of the Dinaric Alps in northern Herzegovina, Prenj is considered as one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the region. Commonly known as “Herzegovina’s Alps” by mountaineers, it hides multiple demanding peaks(over 2000 meters) and provides some thrilling ascents.
You will experience true wilderness of this mountain range with its sharp, elegant peaks and impressive ridges.
We’ll begin our tour by meeting in Mostar and driving to our starting point at Rujiste. From here, we’ll hike towards Bijele Vode Hut in the heart of the pristine Prenj Mountain. We’ll continue our hike towards Zelena Glava(2116m), the highest peak of the range and the neighbouring Otiš(2098m) summit.
You’ll be awe-struck by the imposing views of the surrounding mountains. On our first night, we’ll stay at the Jezerce Hut, amidst steep silent mountains, under clear sky!
On the second day, we’ll head towards Osobac summit (2024m). We can make this trip even more adventurous by climbing through Via Ferrata instead of the opting for the traditional hike. Later, we’ll head back towards our starting point at Rujiste and enjoy hot local food at the national restaurant. After dinner, we’ll drive back to Mostar, completing this memorable trip.

Hiking Guide
Welcome to your Herzegovina Hiking Adventure. My name is Miroslav Mihalj, born in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am the current president of the Croatian Mountaineering Association “Prenj 1933 Mostar”, certified Mountain Guide and Rescuer and I offer hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring tours around this beautiful region.
As mountain hiker I am proud to have climbed some of the highest peaks in Europe and Balkans as well as local peaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which I have climbed numerous times both in winter and summer.
I enjoy nature, that feeling of freedom and serenity the mountains offer. They are a place to find yourself and push your boundaries. I’m lucky to have been born in a place surrounded by beautiful and intact mountain ranges hiding the most exciting nature my country has to offer.
Very much excited to meet you and share with you this truly wonderful world!

We really enjoyed our trip with our guide Mijo. He was extremely good in communicating at WhatsApp and very flexible. We ended our trip in a beautiful river with amazing surrounding view. I can highly recommend to do some hiking in the mountains around Mostar, really worth it.

Due to lack of snow the trip became a hike instead of a snowshoeing trip. Nevertheless it was an awesome experience in pristine mountain area. Miroslav was great. We didn’t meet another sole the full 22km and the lunch stop at the mountain hut was excellent.

Miroslav was a fantastic guide. We wanted to see Outlaw’s Gate up Čvrsnica but didn’t know where to begin, including how to get to the trailhead. Miroslav picked us up from Mostar and took us up to the top. Friendly, knowledgable and funny, we always felt at ease with his expertise on the route. Miroslav is the best guide in Herzegovina - cheers!
