Day hike to Pedraforca’s secondary peak “El Calderer” in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park

Pedraforca is a mesmerizing mountain in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. This majestic peak lies in the comarca de Berguedá. Due to its rare form, and the fact that it stands alone, not visibly connected with other ridges or peaks, it is one of the most emblematic peaks in Catalonia. So, don’t hesitate and join us on this day hike to its secondary peak: El Calderer.

The Generalitat de Catalunya declared Pedraforca a Natural Site of National Interest. The nearest towns are Slades and Gósol. And it marks the boundary for these municipalities, as well as the provinces of Lleida and Barcelona.

The peculiar shape of this magnificent peak consists in two ridges, the pollegons. The Enforcadura, a neck, connects these two parallel ridges. The superior one, receives the name of Pollegó Superior. And rises at 2,506 meters. Then, the ridge below, Pollegó Inferior stands at 2,444 meters. But, it is El Calderer, a secondary peak in this incredible mountain, that stands out for its beauty. Also, while most climbers attempt the main summit, not as many approach El Calderer. Therefore, we’ll get the sensation that the whole mountain is just for ourselves!

Our itinerary will begin at the Mirador de Gresolet. Thereon, we’ll take the main path to the refuge. Upon arrival, we’ll head to the secondary summit. The ascent will not be difficult, however it is quite steep. But the views we’ll enjoy from the top will be an amazing reward for our effort.
