Soaring to 33,000 feet from the ocean floor is the giant Mauna Kea mountain, which is the highest mountain in the Pacific Rim.
Translated as White Mountain, it actually rises 13,803 meters above sea level, making it the highest in Hawaii.
A spectacular mountain, Mauna Kea comprises a collection of cones close to the summit.
The majority of the mountain remains wild and ungroomed, which adds to the effort in conquering its heights.
The beginnings of the hike are a relentless incline that stretches to half a mile. Here you’ll reach the Mauna Kea Ice Age Natural Area Reserve.
The reserve is packed full of archaeological sites scattered along the trail, with some yet to be fully researched by professionals.
Once you reach the point at 12,000 meters that terrain begins to soften and becomes easier. Yet this part of the trail is spectacular, featuring incredible natural colours and coned peaks.
Get in touch now to reserve your place on the Big Island of Hawaii and hike the great Mauna Kea on a thrilling day adventure.
