Follow me on this 3-day ascent to reach the top of Coropuna (6,425 m), a magnificent dormant volcano in southern Peru.
This colossal volcano lies 155 kilometers away from the enchanting city of Arequipa. The Inca considered Coropuna a sacred mountain. And once you get the opportunity to see this impressive peak up close, you understand why. Also, there are many archaeological sites around the area.
On our first day, we will drive towards the Majes Valley. Then, we’ll climb up to the town of Chuquibamba. After that, we will head to Cotahuasi. So we can approach Base Camp (5,000m) from the south face of Coropuna. The camp lies near the Pallarcocha Lagoon. Thus it offers some of the best views of the lagoon and the whole zone.
Then, on day two, as our team prepares and installs Camp 1 (5,500m), we will enjoy the sceneries trekking towards it. So, we’ll ascend for about 4 hours until we reach the camp, where we’ll spend the night.
Finally, we’ll reach the summit of Coropuna on day three. It will take us around 6 hours of hiking to reach the top. But once we stand at the summit, the sights we’ll get will definitely be breathtaking. Upon completion, we’ll head back to Base Camp, and then back to Arequipa. On the way there, we’ll stop at the Majes Valley. And if you are up for it we can grab lunch in Punta Colorada, a place where you can try the exquisite local cuisine.
If you want to join this adventure in one of the most beautiful parts of southern Peru, just send me a request. It will be an unforgettable journey.
Looking to explore the area some more? I also guide this ascent to Nevado Chachani.
