Are you looking for a fantastic mountaineering experience in the volcanoes of Ecuador? Then you’ve come to the right place! Follow me on this 9-day program and discover what the world looks like from the top of Pichincha, Cayambe, Cotopaxi and Chimborazo.
The three highest mountains in Ecuador are Chimborazo (6,263 meters), Cotopaxi (5,897 meters) and Cayambe (5,790 meters). This 9-day adventure invites you to reach these three summits as well as the Ruco Pichincha, a volcano near the city of Quito that boasts an altitude of 4,698 meters. All of them are stratovolcanoes that belong to the Ecuadorian Andes and are amazing destinations for lovers of mountaineering.
Please, take a look below for a detailed description of the program’s itinerary. Keep in mind that it’s mandatory to have prior mountaineering experience and a very good level of fitness.
Would you like to discover the incredible volcanoes of Ecuador? Then don’t hesitate to send the request to book your place on this experience across the tallest mountains in the country. I’ll be glad to be your guide!
I also lead fantastic mountaineering adventures to Huascaran and the Cordillera Blanca, both in Peru. Check them out!
On our first day, we’ll go to the Ruco Pichincha volcano for acclimatization, situated at 4,698 meters of altitude near the city of Quito.
We’ll travel for 3 hours from Quito to Cayambe and, if weather allows it, we’ll practice in the glacier near the refuge.
On the third day, we’ll take a 6-hour ascent from the refuge to the top of Cayambe and then return to Quito or Latacunga.
It will take us around 3 hours to reach the shelter of the mountain, where we’ll have dinner and prepare for the next day.
We’ll wake up early in the morning to take a 6-hour ascent to the summit of this incredible peak and then head back to the city.
On this day, we’ll depart early in the morning from Quito in the direction of Chimborazo and arrive at the refuge after 5 hours.
We’ll move with our equipment to a high camp on a 4-hour ascent and prepare for the next day.
On our last day, we’ll start early in the morning an 8-hour ascent to the highest summit in Ecuador. Then, we’ll return to the refuge where our driver will be waiting for us to return to Quito. Finally, we’ll share dinner in Quito to celebrate our achievement.

Aspirant Guide
I am an aspirant IFMGA mountain guide, with extensive experience in Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Perú and Ecuador.
I live in Patagonia, in Villa Cerro Castillo, South of Chile, an incredible place with mountains and climbing opportunities everywhere - with many hidden spots yet to explore. I do a lot of guiding in South America´s High Mountains, techical ones, and in Patagonia too.
I also offer rock climbing and mountainering courses in different locations in Chile and in my city. During my tours, I try to create the best experience for my clients, and like to teach them about the cultural and environmental importance of the places we visit.

I climbed with Nicolás for two days in Coyhaique (crack climbing on Salto Chico and a multi-pitch on Cerro Mackay) and had a great time. Nicolás is a very nice and friendly guy and absolutely professional as a mountain guide. Totally recommended, and hopefully I‘ll get the chance to do some more climbing with Nicolás.
Highly recommend!
