Description

Join me on an exciting trip, climbing steep, corrugated ridges of the Tatra Mountains in Poland! You’ll be spellbound by the breathtaking views of the soaring peaks and lush fields as we hike its sharp ridges.

The Tatra Mountains commonly know as the Tatras is a mountain range forming a natural border between Slovakia and Poland. This region offers idyllic scenery with its green valleys, lakes and small water spring arising from multiple corners.

And you don’t even have to be a climbing expert to enjoy this trek; as long as you are fit with a little climbing experience, you’ll be fine!

We’ll begin our adventure from the resort town of Zakopane. Multiple stay options are available here and the access to the mountains is also quite easy. We can trek of one or more days depending on your preference and fitness level.

We’ll start from Zakopane and take a fun cable car ride to reach Kasprowy Wierch. You’ll see beautiful mountain vistas as we rise. From Kasprowy Wierch, we’ll approach the starting point of the climb in another 2- 2.5 hours and begin to ascend.

Starting at an elevation of 1500 meter from Hala Gąsienicowa-a pastoral Tatra valley, we’ll set on the ridges. One of my favorite spots, you’ll be amazed to find crystal clear mountain lakes, surrounded by sharp granite walls and sharp edges here!

Next, we’ll head towards the outstanding and truly classic ridges of Kościelec or Wierch pod Fajki (Pipe Ridge).

Once on the ridge, you’ll be stunned by the spectacular view and blinding brightness. We’ll occasionally traverse through granite needles sticking out from the edges and you’ll thoroughly enjoy this climb!

Our return to Zakopane would truly be adventurous as we’ll be abseiling down!

Mountain Guide

I was born in Zakopane and spent my childhood living very close to the Tatra National Park borders. Naturally, Tatra valleys close to Zakopane became my playground, where I spent lots of time with friends. Afterwards I started hiking in this beautiful mountains with my parents and friends.

Once, I found myself on the hardest, signed path in the Tatras - known as Orla Perć (Eagle Path)- and I spot some climbers on Zamarła Turnia (Death Crag). I knew straight away that was going to be my next step: to get to know our mountains even better.

My first climbs in the Tatras were in 1992, at a climbing course organised by a Mountaineering Club from Zakopane. Consequently, Since then, I have climbed many more routes, in summer and in winter. As a result of this, I gained more and more experience, spending all my free time after school in the mountains.

I was lucky to climb on other great mountain ranges around the world such as Yosemite in California, Mont Blanc massif in the French Alps, the Bernese Alps in Switzerland, the Dolomites in Italy, the Gorge du Verdon in France, the Stubaier Alps in Austria or Ben Nevis North Face in Scotland.

Apart from climbing in the mountains, my second nature and passion is skiing. Up to the age of 15, I used to take part in alpine skiing competitions. Shortly after that, I discovered ski touring, or so called ski alpinism, as a fantastic way to visit the mountains in winter.

The experience I gained climbing and skiing for many years, resulted in my life as a mountain professional. Below you can find my most important qualifications:

-Tatra Mountain Guide - A certified qualification obtained after passing an official long term guiding course as well as the final exams. This certificate allows me to guide people, in summer and in winter, in exposed mountain terrain, with the use of ropes and climbing techniques.
-Mountain Rescuer (Tatra Mountain Search and Rescue) TOPR - In winter, I work full time at the rescue service in the Tatras. I specialise in handling avalanche dogs. I own a certified avalanche search dog, named Has (border collie)
-Skiing Instructor (Polish Skiing Association) PZN - This is an internationally recognised, skiing instructor certificate, which allows me to teach skiing at all levels.

In my prívate life, I am a happy husband to Aleksandra and the father of two boys- Klimek and Staś. We all love life in the outdoors and try to spend there as much time together, as we can.

What people are saying about Grzegorz

Aubrey

I’m so grateful for Greg who was both nurturing and disciplined. He was patient and empowered me to push forth and achieve. In other ways, he made it extremely safe for the technical climb. I always marvel how he manages the ropes & his keen sense of direction in the mountains blows my mind. Even thought the weather conditions were not the best, i have achieved many things in this climb. I would like to come back and have Greg guide me again in the future!
