Climbing Espolón Franceses route at Peña Vieja

Peña Vieja is a mountain located in the massif Picos de Europa (Spanish for “Peaks of Europe”), in Northern Spain. In this outing you can join me for an amazing rock climbing adventure to its summit, via the popular Espolón de los Franceses route.

The Espolón de los Franceses (1000m, V/V+) is a very popular rock climbing route in Spain and leads to one of the most important summits of Picos de Europa: Peña Vieja (2.613 m). For this program you should be in good shape and have a minimal experience in simple classic climbs.

We will get to Espolón de los Franceses with the Fuente Dé cable car. This climbing route goes through the rock spur of the South East side of Peña Vieja and offers awesome views of the beautiful “Puertos de Áliva”.

Picos de Europa is a limestone formation which extends over the Spanish Communities of Asturias, Cantabria and León, close to the Cantabrian Sea. It has fantastic walls to climb away from the queues and bustle of other regions.
