Description

On these 1-day tours, a certified guide will take you to one of the most stunning mountains in the Polish Tatras and you will learn and practice the skills you need to climb it. This hands-on experience can take you either to the top of Mnich or on the Gran Koscielcow.

These classic tours start early, at around 7 am, and end between 4 or 5 pm, depending on the variant that you choose. Both include the equipment and necessary training to tackle the climbing challenge at hand.

Option 1: Mnich

The Mnich (2068 masl)  is a simple yet spectacular peak next to Morskie Oko in the Tatra Mountains. It is the perfect option for a first-time rope climbing trip. It is graded II on the UIAA scale and is a great place to start. Technically, it is not a problem for athletic people, although the top part of the climb is quite unforgettable. The route covers 7 km from the shelter, a 100-meter climb, and as much as 765 meters of elevation. For more advanced climbers, we can also choose a harder route.

Option 2: Gran Koscielcow

The Gran Koscielcow (2155 masl) is similar in difficulty to the Mnich (also II on the UIAA scale), while the terrain is more diverse, and the ridge itself is much less crowded. The trip begins by taking the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch or by hiking from Kuźnice through Hala Gąsienicowa to the Mylna Przełęcz, where it will take around 2 hours to climb to the summit after putting on the climbing equipment.

Training

Although these climbs are not formal courses, in order to carry them out we will cover the following techniques which one of the guides on our team will show you:

  • Putting the harness on

  • Tying the rope to the harness

  • Basic principles of belaying in the Tatra Mountains

  • Basics of rope descent

  • Basic technique for moving in high mountain terrain.

There are slight variations in the itinerary and price for these two options which are detailed below. Take your pick and contact us today to start planning this wild adventure in the Tatras! We look forward to guiding you!

Itinerary

Day 1: Option 1: Mnich

  • 07:00 - meeting before the barrier in Palenica Białczańska or 30 minutes earlier in Zakopane. Often, the guide has the option to enter the Wlosienica by car (only 1.5 km from the shelter) - we will inform you about this option about a week before leaving

  • 09:00 - 20-minute rest at the shelter, discussing the trip plan

  • 09:20 - 11:00 - approach to Back Mnichowe and Wyżnia Mnichowa Switch

  • 11:00 - 13:00 - wearing the harness and entering the Upper Shelves, and then the gable dome itself. Of course, 100 meters of climbing is carried out by the guide, belaying the participants. Due to the exposure, the upper part of the entrance is the essence of the entrance to the Monk

  • 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - preparation for the congress. The guide lowers the participants onto the rope and then descends by himself

  • 14:00 - 17:00 - return to the starting point

Day 2: Option 2: Gran Koscielcow

  • 7:00 - meeting in Kuźnice in front of the Mountain Explorers rental ( map ) and a trip to Murowaniec on Hala Gąsienicowa

  • 9:00 - rest at the shelter, discussion of the climbing plan

  • 10:30 - ascent to the Mylna Przełęcz

  • 10:30 - 13:00 - wearing a harness, helmets, and crossing the Ridge - we go to Zadni Kościelec, go down to the Kościelcowa Przełęcz, and then we go to Kościelec

  • 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - return to Kuźnice

What people are saying about Explore-Share

Man

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Maxine

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Valeriya

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Cami

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
