8 Days

The Cerro del Plata is a perfect mountain to have a first introduction to high mountaineering. Moreover, it is usually a point of acclimatization before undertaking more challenging ascents. Once you climb the Cerro del Plata you’ll be ready for the Aconcagua, Tupungato, Mercedario or any other peak of more than 6000 meters.
This expedition up to the summit of Cerro del Plata will take us 8 amazing days. Our starting point will be Vallecitos, Mendoza. During the ascent we’ll spend the night in one of the most important mountain lodges of the area.
Furthermore, there will be some nights that we’ll sleep under the starlight, in a comfortable campsite. At the foot of Cerro del Plata you can also find numerous services and facilities.
At the end of this description you will find more details about the day-by-day itinerary.
Although you won’t need any especial technical skill, it is a program suitable for people with an excellent physical condition.
Departure from Mendoza in a private transfer that will take us directly to Vallecitos (2900 m) in Cordón del Plata. This day we will spend the night in the Mausy mountain hut and we will make a short walk to begin the acclimatization. Dinner included.
Ascent to Cerro San Bernardo at 4200 m and return to the Mausy hut. Acclimatization process.
Departure in the morning after breakfast, heading to Las Cadenitas, following the acclimatization itinerary. Dinner and overnight in the Mausy mountain hut.
A good breakfast in the morning will comfort us to continue ascending to arrive at El Salto (4400 m), an ideal place to set up our base camp. Estimated walking time about 6 to 7 hours. Dinner at the base camp.
Breakfast, day of rest and acclimatization. Short hike in the area.
Very early breakfast at 4.00 AM and beginning of the climb to Cerro del Plata (6000m) which will require more than 8 hours of ascent and about 5 hours of descent to the camp. Dinner.
Breakfast. We will disarm the camp to start the descent to the area of the mountain huts where we’ll await the transfer that will take us back to Mendoza.
An extra day for more acclimatization or bad weather conditions.

test
My rating for the winter ascent of Lanin volcano is 10/10 in every possible aspect. Luis organized perfectly well the whole ascent and assembled a great team of guides (Ramiro, Gabriel and Jonathan) who came with him to the mountain. The day before, we met in San Martin to check the equipment. On day one, after the hike up to the refuge, we went over the techniques and gear needed for the summit day (self-arrest, avalanche safety equipment, etc.). Summit day is demanding, but exceptional! The views from the summit include Villarica, Llaima and Copahue volcanoes to the north, and Tronador, Puntiagudo and Osorno to the south. Booking through Explore-Share was very smooth and easy, the customer service is the best!
