Cerro Castillo classic trekking route in 4 days

Today I invite you to a 4-day trip across the Cerro Castillo classic trekking route in the region of Aysen, Chile.

The Cerro Castillo classic trekking route is located in the Cerro Castillo Natural Reserve. This protected area lies among the watershed of the Aysen and Ibanez Rivers. Besides, it is crossed by the well-known Southern Road (in Spanish Carretera Austral).

As your guide I want to propose a really unique hiking expedition of 4 days across the Cerro Castillo classic trekking route.

The adventure will start in Las Horquetas, will continue hiking along the Laguna Cerro Castillo and finally, getting to the village.

During this 4-day expedition we will count on the help of porters that will make our trip lighter. And although it is not necessary to have previous hiking experience you should be well trained because there will be days of more than 6 hours of walking.

For more details, please find below a day-by-day program of Cerro Castillo classic trekking route:

DAY 1

We will be taken to Las Horquetas where the trek starts. We will hike up to the Turbio River Base Camp. Total walking time: 4 to 5 hours.

DAY 2

During this day, we will continue to trek towards the Forest Camp. It is located at the foot of the southern face of Cerro Peñon. Total walking time: 5 to 6 hours.

DAY 3

Trek to Laguna Cerro Castillo, the most important spot of the trail. Once in there, we will be at the base of the peak, admiring its hanging glaciers. We keep hiking along the lagoon in order to reach New Zealander Camp. Total walking time of the day: 7 to 8 hours.

DAY 4

In our last day, we will descend to the trailhead of Estero Parada, where a transfer will be waiting us. We’ll be taken to the Cerro Castillo Village.
