Fredy is a local UIMLA - AGOCP certified mountain guide who wants to invite you to this 10-day Cedros-Alpamayo trek. Start in Huaraz and walk up to the base of the Alpamayo peak, considered the most beautiful mountain of the world since 1966.
Cordillera Blanca
10 Days
May - Oct
Moreover, the Alpamayo represents one of the main stars of the Cordillera Blanca’s landscape. During this guided trek you will also admire the stunning viewpoint of the Jancaurish Valley. From here, there is an unforgettable view of the unique pyramidal shape of the Alpamayo mountain.
The Cedros-Alpamayo trek will take us 10 days in total. The maximum altitude we will reach is 5850 meters above sea level. Therefore, participants must have an excellent fitness level as well as some prior hiking experience. The best period to enjoy this trekking adventure is from May till October, during the driest season.
I will lead a group of no more than 4 guests. However, if you are a larger group I will ask a colleague to join us. And if you are more than 5 participants I will invite a mountain cook and his assistant specialized in normal and vegetarian food. That way we will enjoy the most delicious meals at the campsites. Please find the complete itinerary at the bottom of this page.
If you have more questions feel free to contact me. I am here waiting for your message so we can plan this amazing trek in Cordillera Blanca together!!!
We will take a private transfer to the old Yungay, where we will visit the campo santo. This area was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1970.
Then we will continue driving in direction to the Hualcayan village, where we will meet with our mountain crew. Overnight camp at Hualcayan.
This day we walk on a steep hill admiring the spectacular view of the Hualcayan village, where the arable field looks like mosaic and most of it is sown for Andean products. Overnight camp at Wishcash.
Today we will climb up to the lake of Cullicocha. After resting, we will keep going up on a steep trail until we reach our first high pass, Punta Cillicocha. Here we can take amazing pictures of the huge mountains and cliffs and then, descend to our campsite in Osoruri.
After breakfast we walk towards the Vientonan Pass. Then we will descend through a landscape where the Mount Pilanco dominates the scene. We will follow walking until we are at the Jancarurish campsite. Overnight there.
Today we have two options:
Option 1: hike to Laguna Jancarurish or visit the Alpamayo Base Camp at 4500m, which has been considered the most beautiful mountain in the world since 1966.
Option 2: a simple day off at the camping spot to relax our legs and mind.
This day is probably the hardest day of the trek since we must cross two mountain passes. First we will ascend on a steep trail until we reach the Cara Cara pass (4830m). We will then descend to climb up the next pass. Finally we walk down into Huillca, a remote mountain valley. Overnight camp here.
Today we’ll first reach the Yanacon Pass. After some pictures and rest we descend to the campsite. In the afternoon some Quechua families may come to offer their products, as beverages (soda or beer). We should buy some as a symbol of friendship that is a way to make money for those people. Overnight camp at Jancapampa.
We will pass through several remote Andean communities, where we can observe how people work their lands and livestock. We then walk up to the Tupa-Tupa Pass and after that we will descend to our next camp, Huecrucocha.
Early in the morning we’ll ascend to the Alto de Pucaraju Pass, from where the view is absolutely stunning. After that, we will walk through a rocky trail until we reach Tuctu – Paria valley, where we will set up our camp for the night.
Last day of the trip. It consists in an easy walk down across a wide green valley with some sections of quenual and quisuar forest. We will then reach Huaripampa village but we will pass directly in direction to Vaqueria. Here our private transportation awaits to bring us back to Huaraz. On the road we will drive across the Portachuelo pass, where the view is superb with several summits around. End of the program in Huaraz.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
