Description

Carros de Foc (which means Charriots of Fire) is an alpine route with a looping itinerary that connects 9 mountain huts within the Aigüestortes i Llac de Sant Maurici National Park, the only Spanish natural reserve located in the region of Catalonia. The park extends over 141 km2 within the Pyrenees mountain range, with a maximum elevation of 3,017 meters (Besiberri Sud peak).

While Carros de Foc is mostly visited during the summer, our trip will take you in winter for you to be able to explore the area’s vast snow-covered slopes and deep powder snow! Unlike other months, February and March offer great weather and amazing snow conditions in the area.

Our tour’s meeting point will be the beautiful village of Arties (1,144m), in the Val d’Aran region, in the province of Lerida. During 6 days, we will ride across Aigüestortes’ high-mountain terrain, climbing some magnificent peaks. We will spend the nights in comfortable alpine huts, where we will enjoy some delicious local food and taste great Catalonian wines!

The trail has a total distance of 55 kilometers, with a 9,000-meter vertical drop. In order to go on this trip, participants need to have previous splitboarding experience and be in good shape.

In case you are interested, I also offer a ski touring version of this program. If you are rather looking for summer activities in the area, check out the Pyrenees hiking tour in Cerdanya, Pallars or Aran, and the rock climbing initiation course in Cerdanya.
