Description

Ice climbing is a thrilling winter activity. And when you get to enjoy it in a place as beautiful and picturesque as Briancons (1,326m) in the Hautes-Alpes area of France, it is even better.

Ice climbing can be as challenging as it is exciting,  so I've geared this half day trip to beginners. Thus giving people with no ice climbing experience a chance to learn the basics and get some of that valuable experience. However, because of the nature of ice climbing, some prior climbing experience is a plus. Also, participants should be in good physical condition, as ice climbing is a very physical activity.

Briancons is the highest city in France. As a result, it has become a very popular place for winter sports. From all types of skiing to ice climbing, this commune has become a fantastic place to visit in the winter months.

During this adventure, we will go to the Schappe, which is in the heart of Briancons. The Schappe is a frozen waterfall, and scaling it with crampons, a harness, and an ice axe is an unforgettable experience. At the beginning of the day, we will go over the basics of the necessary equipment. I will also provide you with helpful advice and tips. After that, we will start climbing. Since this trip is for beginners, we will take it slow and easy. I will also see to it that you are properly guided at every step, and safe at all times.

Briancons is a beautiful, scenic part of France. And on this half day trip, I want to guide you on one of the best winter activities you can enjoy there, ice climbing! So if you want to join me, and learn the basics of this great experience, just send me a request.

I can also guide you on a full day ice climbing adventure in La Grave in the Hautes-Alpes as well.

Mountain Guide

I'm a fully certified IFMGA mountain guide from Les Hautes Alpes. I'm based very close to the National Park of Queyras.
I was born in a farm in Haute Savoie. I grew up with cows and when I was 1 1/2 years old, I climbed my first mountain...Nooo, I'm just kidding !
I come from Paris and I actually started sailing before mountaineering. I studied in a business school and I realized few years later that actually, my passion was not to sit behind a computer all day but to guide friends and clients in the mountains.
I now live in Les Hautes Alpes and I'll be happy to bring you up there and let you live an unique time. So please contact me and let's start planning a mountain trip you would like to do, during the winter or the summer, for 1/2 or several days !
