Description
Caño Cristales is known as Colombia’s Rainbow River. This fantastic place offers a unique and breathtaking spectacle, with a rainbow of colors underneath its waters. And on this day hike and boat ride, we’ll get to enjoy these hypnotizing sceneries.
The river lies in the Macarena mountain range, in the municipality of Macarena. This natural paradise in the department of Meta, has also received other nicknames. Due to the extraordinaire aquatic plants that grow in Caño Cristales, a unique and spectacular phenomenon happens here. The plants change colors with the exposition to the sun rays. The palette ranges from fresh greens to intense reds, and all the colors in between. Thus producing the illusion of a rainbow underwater.
This magical place is beautiful all year round. However, the blossoming of these aquatic plants happens between the dry season and the wet one. Hence, between the months of July and October, it is the most ideal season to visit Caño Cristales.
But, even if you don’t come during the blossoming, there are still many options of wonderful spots to visit. For instance, on this adventure, we’ll explore the La Macarena National Park. Then we’ll head to Caño Cristalitos. Here, we’ll learn about the local flora and fauna, including exotic species of birds, monkeys and even caimans.
