Description

The Big Lookout is a spectacular lookout point located in the Gros Borne National Park in Newfoundland, Canada. The hike takes about 6-8 hours to complete, covering roughly 16km and we will lead you up 600m or 2000ft of elevation.

Once we reach the summit there are amazing views to enjoy that overlook Bonne Bay, the Long Range Mountains and the Tablelands. This is a wonderful day hike during which we will inform you of the geological history of the park, along with facts about the local flora and fauna.

Some people come to Gros Borne and hike without a guide on the established trails but our hike will explore the secrets of the area using our guides’ extensive knowledge. We will take you off the beaten tracks into wild lands where you will likely not come across another hiker outside our group!

There are some steep sections and wet parts to the hike and we recommend that you have hiking experience and are fit to fully enjoy this trip.

Join us now and our team of knowledgeable and friendly mountain guides will be waiting to share this fabulous day hiking with you.

Itinerary

Day 1: Big Lookout Hike

After gathering at the meeting place we will begin our 6-8 hour hike towards the Big Lookout at about 9:30am. Our route mirrors that of an old fire tower path (occasionally steep) and this will bring us to an elevated plateau. Moving on we will cross over the Plateau where the ground underfoot is likely to be wet. To reach the Big Lookout we must ascend a steep scree slope that traces a ridge all the way to the summit.

There will be plenty of time for photos and refreshments at the breathtaking location before we begin out descent to the starting point.

Will was great wise and fun to spend the day with.

Phillip

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Lucie

All perfect

Amanda

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
