Known as the “Million Dollar Highway,” Red Mountain Pass can deliver unprecedented Rocky Mountain skiing with unforgettable views. It is located between Ouray and Silverton, making it a staple stop on any snow athlete’s dream tour. Access throughout the San Juan Mountains makes it not only a blast to ski, but also a breeze. This is the place to go ski touring in southwest Colorado.
Your program is designed to immerse you in this luscious backcountry for an entire day, so you can tour through the deep powder. While the views are outstanding, nothing beats the alpine bowls and tree-lined runs that are synonymous with Red Mountain Pass. Other runs include steep couloirs and high peaks that descend into awe-inspiring valleys. There are exciting objectives throughout the area, even ski mountaineering obstacles for the ambitious adventurers.
If you have some extra time, visit the OPUS Hut. This historic ski hut stands as an icon at Ophir Pass on your way to or from Silverton. It is a great experience for professionals who want to dip their toes further into the San Juan Mountain ski culture.
You should be in good shape to take on the Red Mountain Pass backcountry. Previous experience is required to get the most of this trip. You should also feel comfortable in the remote areas away from other skiers on difficult lines. The San Juan Mountains are one of my favorite places to ski and I will guide you on a safe program while we have an absolute blast skiing like locals.
Book this incredible backcountry skiing day program NOW and make the San Juan Mountains one of the best places you’ve ever skied in the Colorado Rockies!
