The IFMGA/UIAGM certified mountain guide and expert skier Massimo Candolini invites you to go with him to the Julian Alps of Italy to learn more about self-rescue techniques and how to use ARVA materials in avalanches.
Julian Alps
1 Day
Jan
Winter sports passionate, join me in this training course to learn more about self-rescue in avalanches. We will spend 1 full day in the insides of the Julian Alps, in Sella Nevea, Italy.
The offer of ARVA materials is as varied as ever.
There are new technologies which change constantly. And also, improved search methods so is it vital to keep updated.
The course will deal with rescue after avalanches both theoretically and in practice.
We invite everyone to join in, whether you are beginner or an expert skier or climber. Once you have completed the training, you will have a complete update on how to manage rescues.
What you will need to follow the course are: ski touring equipment or snow shoes.
Also, warm clothes since we will be spending the entire day in the mountains. The best thing would be to wear a quilted jacket.
And, if you have your own safety kit, you should bring it.
The avalanche training course will be divided in two parts.
The first part will take place at the Gilberti Hut. Here, you will learn the most theoretical aspects about the rescue.
After that, we will continue the training in the open, where we will carry out “simple” search tests.
We will then proceed to do more difficult ones, even with digging complexity.
You will also have the opportunity to learn how to use the probe and run some experiments.
Finally, we will go back to the Hut to draw conclusions about our training day.
Do not waste more time and sign up for this complete and thorough avalanche guided training course. I can assure you the day spend in the Julian Alps learning will be incredibly rewarding. I’ll be waiting for your contact. It will be a pleasure to teach you everything I know about self-rescue in avalanches.
The theoretical lesson delivered in the hut will develop topics such as: the use of ARVA materials, search phases (primary, secondary and of precision), search modality (flow waves and cross modulus) and multiple search. Then, we will move the course outside where you will apply “easy” search techniques. After that, the search is going to be more complex (timed, multiple and deep). We will also deepen our knowledge on digging and its rescue techniques and on how to use the probe running a sensibility test. Finally, we will go back to the Gilberti Hut to draw conclusions and descend.

poor weather limited the experience. We had hoped for a guide more familiar with the area, our first and last night were in a remote place requiring an hours walk. We only learnt about this on the day of departure. otherwise no problems
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
