Ascent to Dos Conos Volcano, Catamarca

Today, I am inviting you to an expedition up to the two Puna giants: Dos Conos Volcano, of 5.800 y 5.900 meters high.

The Catamarqueña Puna give us a landscape full of colors, snow-capped peaks, vegas and salt flats that take us back to the past. Inca mark is present in this region. It lets us discover more about the amazing civilization who inhabited this zone 500 years ago.

Keep reading the following itinerary of the ascent to Dos Conos Volcano program:

DAY 1: STARTIN POINT IN FIAMBALÁ

Arrival to Fiambalá, equipment check and transfer to Pastos Largos. Hike up to 3.300 meters of height at Pastos Largos Hut, dinner and rest in there.

DAY 2: ACCLIMATIZATION DAY

We’ll start our trek to 4.000m in order to get acclimatized. Return to the Pastos Largos Hut. Rest, dinner and night in the hut.

DAY 3: THE CAVES

Transfer to The Caves at 4.100 m. Arrival to The Caves Hut. Dinner and night in there.

DAY 4: FALSE MOROCHO

Ascent to the Morocho at 4.7000 meters. Return to The Caves Hut. Free afternoon and rest. Dinner and night in the hut.

DAY 5: CERRO NEGRO

Ascent to 5.000-meter Cerro Negro. Return to The Caves Hut. Free afternoon and rest. Dinner and night in the hut.

DAY 6: TRANSFER TO HUT 6 (4.700m)

Rest and acclimatization day. Transfer to hut 6 with dinner and night included.

DAY 7: DOS CONOS VOLCANO BASE

Transfer to Dos Conos base camp by the morning. We’ll dinner and spend the night there.

DAY 8: EASTERN DOS CONOS ASCENT

Ascent to Easter Dos Conos. Night in the base camp at the foot of the hill.

DAY 9: WESTERN DOS CONOS ASCENT

Ascent to Western Dos Conos hill. Night in The Caves hut again.

DAY 10: ENDING POINT
