Description

Scale the heights of Mount Alvear, the crown jewel of the Fuegian Andes.

Conquer this 1,362 meter (4,468 feet) tall volcanic rock mountain - the highest peak in the Alvear mountain range. We propose an ascent by its west route, entering the well-known French Valley, giving us an implacable view of the Bouvier mountain range.

Marvel at one of the most complete views of the mountain range from the summit. Here, we'll be able to see the Darwin Range, the Beagle Channel, Lake Khami (Fagnano), a fantastic view of the Ojo del Albino glacier and Domo Blanco, among other landmarks.

The west route is technically easy, but requires a moderate level of fitness, as the 15 km ascent has a positive elevation gain of approximately 1,200 meters. This ascent can be done all year round, taking into account that the technical and physical level increases during the winter.

Equipment you will need to bring

You must have a backpack with a capacity of preferably 25/30 L, this should include your personal coat, food, climbing harness, helmet, and crampons if necessary, as well as water and other personal items such as sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.
