The Alta Via N° 2 is an exceptional hiking trail that takes us along the southern side of the Aosta Valley, from Courmayeur to Donnas. I invite you to join me and enjoy this 6 or 7-day beautiful itinerary.
Also called the naturalistic Alta Via, we hike much of the route through the Gran Paradiso National Park and the Mont Avic Regional Park. The trail crosses wilderness areas with amazing landscapes, with diverse alpine flora and fauna species. We also go through inhabited areas, where we have the chance to discover the ancient origins of Valdostan traditions and crafts, and also to taste typical and delicious local products.
To start the hike, we cross the mountains to the right side of the Dora Baltea River. The Alta Via N.2 is easily accessible to everyone, since it runs along well-marked paths, with an average width of about 80 cm., and is completely sign-posted.
If you are used to walking in the mountains you will be able to hike the trail all along, while if this is your first hikiing experience, you will be able to follow some of the short and lower altitude stretches.
The itinerary runs from Courmayeur to Donnas, requiring an average of 7-8 hour hiking time each day. Along the way, we find many stopping points, like huts, campsites, bivouacs and hostels. At the end of almost every stage, the trail descends into the valley, where we are able to use the services of every village or we can as well stop the journey and return to the central valley by bus.
The best time to enjoy this itinerary is during the summer months. The trail takes us across medium and high altitude mountains, through beautiful pastures, meadows and forests. We hike through an average of 2000 meters height, and we even reach the 3000 m!
We will enjoy an incredible week, hiking across untouched nature. We will have the chance to admire the grace of a chamois, or a pack of goats in the grasslands, below the eternal snow and moraines, or even the elegant flight of the golden eagle.
The best time to admire the amazing flora of the valley is July, when the flowering in the mountain takes place, and we can enjoy the view of brilliantly coloured flowers all around.
So what are you waiting for? Send me a request and join me on this hiking week along an incredibly beautiful wild scenery. We will spend an unforgettable time in the Aosta Valley.

We did a 1 day Ferrata with Marica. We've both never climbed a Ferrata before but we are both good hikers. We enjoyed our trip very much and you don't need to be a climber. Marica took good care of us and she is very informative with the local geography and history. We felt very safe with her. If you are traveling near the Dolomite and want to try something a bit out of your comfort zone, I highly recommend doing a ferrata especially with Marica. We did both ferrata ra gusela nuvolau and ferrata-averau. It took us about 6 hours.
