Rising to 5,947 meters (19,511 feet) in elevation, Alpamayo is among the most recognizable peaks in the Cordillera Blanca and a much coveted summit for mountaineering enthusiasts!
The mountain sits in the northern reaches of Huascarán National Park and shot to fame in 1966 when a German outdoor magazine published a photo of it with a survey of mountaineering experts, who chose it as “the most beautiful mountain in the world”.
Starting from the idyllic city of Huaraz in north-central Peru, we will make our way to the mountain, enjoying a scenic approach through some of the country’s diverse and spectacular landscapes.
Once we reach the base of the mountain, it will be time to get out our climbing gear and make the highly technical, but rewarding ascent to the summit.
However, before any of this, we will start our adventure together with an acclimatization hike to Wilcacocha (3,600m), which will provide us with some great views and whet your appetite for the adventure ahead.
The following day, we will transfer to village of Cashapampa, from which point the trek begins.
Before reaching the foot of the mountain, we will approach through a verdant valley, passing pristine mountain lagoons en route.
As we cross over a mountain pass toward the foot of the peak, we will be privy to one of the best views of the peak that one can possibly get.
Once we’ve arrived at the foot of the mountain, it will be time to take out the ice axes, crampons and rope and begin climbing.
From the top, we will be rewarded with incredible views out over the surrounding peaks and valleys.
Once we’ve had our fill, we will make our descent and return to Huaraz.
So what are you waiting for? Book now for this incredible 8-day mountaineering adventure to the summit of Alpamayo!

We had such an amazing time on this Trek! From the beginning to the end we had wonderful service through “Wild Huayhuash - Tomas Operator”. It is an amazing, beautiful, take your breath away hike. The guides are knowledgeable, kind, and extremely helpful. We had guide/cook Rosmel, guide Angel, operators Edgar and Tomas. Rosmel made us food every day(breakfast, lunch, snacks (popcorn), and dinner), woke us up to a fresh cup of tea every morning in our tent, and guides us through the first few days of our hike. He was like Superman carrying our lunch on his back every day of the trek (think heavy food in pots, with juice). Angel was the guide the rest of the way through the trek and was also very kind and professional. He was funny, paced us well through the hard sections, and let us have breaks whenever we needed. Both Rosmel & Angel were always working to get us to the best viewpoints, and best camping spots first, before the other groups. They also both helped when I had an asthma attack during the trek. From the operator side, Tomas and Edgar were amazing. Going through all the information we would need, allowing us to leave extra things in their office, allowing us to rest and shower in one of their rooms at no extra charge when we got back from the trek, and Edgar helped us find a map of Huayhuash so we could document our journey when we got back (finding a map of Huayhuash in Huaraz was not easy). This was a well put together group, and always seemed to be one step ahead of the other Huayhuash trekking groups. I highly recommend!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
