Join us on this marvelous 8-day walking tour in and around the truly special and amazing city of Porto in Northern Portugal, and you will bear witness to all the stunning scenery, culture and history that this region has to offer, from sleepy seaside towns and villages, to castles and cathedrals, lush green fields and the bustling metropolis of Porto city itself.
Porto is the second largest city in Portugal, located in the North of the country, and is internationally famous as being the home of Port Wine and for being a World Heritage Site. It lies on the banks of the Douro River and contains grand and majestic architecture, as well as plenty of peaceful parks and gardens.
We meet at Porto Airport and head to the hotel, where we will dispense all relevant information for the week, including transfer and train vouchers, emergency contact number and walking maps.
From the 2nd day onwards you we will be walking, and as the routes are completely self-guided you can go as fast or slow as you like, depending on energy and enthusiasm.
Highlights include a walk through the gorgeous medieval town of Guimaraes, the birthplace of Portugal and a fun place to explore, the coastal walk to the South of Porto, taking in the quaint fishing village of Afurada and numerous striking sandy beaches, and the walks near Castelo de Queijo, Vila do conde and Povoa do Varzim, where awe-inspiring parks, gardens, fishing ports and more glorious architecture.
There is of course ample time to explore the city of Porto itself, an increasingly popular tourist destination from people from all around the world due to its manageable size, which manages to pack in an astonishing amount of cultural and gastronomical delights.
After 8-days you will hopefully have discovered what makes Porto and the surrounding area so special, while also experiencing the fun of making your own way around.

Once you get to Porto airport you will be met inside the airport terminal, at the exit hall by our driver who will hold a sign with your name written upon it.
A walk taking in some of Porto ́s most iconic monuments and places such as the Cathedral, the Stock Exchange, S. Bento Station, the Praça da Ribeira and the Port Lodges.
We see some magnificent views from the top of D. Luis I Bridge and the viewpoint of the Serra do Pilar. We also have the chance to taste port in the old Port houses of Vila Nova de Gaia. The walk is short to allow for the various visits along the way.
The walk follows the coast south of Porto along boardwalks and promenades giving access to beautiful sandy beaches.
The fishing village of Afurada, with many cafés and restaurants, is worth exploring and makes a great lunch time stop.
We then follow the imaginatively created walkway along the south bank of the river back to the centre.
A walk along the north bank of the river starting at the fishing port of Matosinhos, renowned for its superb fish restaurants.
Our walk follows promenades and boardwalks down the Atlantic coast to Foz do Douro where the river meets the sea.
Then on to the centre of Porto.
Our route enables us to enjoy superb views of the river, the town and the sea for the first part and then the classic Porto architecture.
This route leads from Guimarães railway station through the centre of Guimarães old town and up to the Ducal Palace and Castle using the most straightforward route possible.
Clients can then explore the town and return to the railway station at the end by the same route.
A lovely walk taking in some beautiful parks and gardens, along leafy quiet lanes.
We go through some picturesque and ancient neighbourhoods and can visit places of interest along the way such as the Museu Romantico, Casa Tait, the Crystal Palace and also the splendid Parque da Cidade.
A great coastal walk visiting two charming seaside towns, Povoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde. Much of the route gives access to wonderful beaches.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me!
