The Lyngen Alps is a top freeriding destination in Scandinavia, offering dry powder and diverse backcountry terrain, including open lines, ocean runs, and classic routes. We'll also explore Senja, Tamokdalen, and hidden tours around our Målselv hut. The itinerary will be adjusted to your preferences and current weather and avalanche conditions.
This trip focuses on backcountry skiing and splitboarding in remote, untouched areas. Expect to climb 1000-1200 vertical meters each day for 6 days of exhilarating powder runs.
Get ready to explore Senja, an island where rugged coastlines meet towering snow-capped peaks. Tamokdalen, a top ski touring paradise, offers calmer weather and more snow than the coastal areas, making it a perfect spot for adventure. Dive into the incredible lines of southern Lyngen and venture off the beaten path around our hut in Målselv. And if you’re up for it, we can even take a dog sled to some of our tours!
For a bit of extra excitement, we can arrange a speedboat trip to the hidden gem of Kågen Island, where we’ll spend the day exploring its beauty.
One of the best parts of this trip is staying in a traditional Norwegian log cabin, full of character and history. Tucked away in a peaceful, remote location, it’s the perfect place to relax and recharge after a day of adventure.
We carefully crafted this itinerary based on our experience in Norway since 2016, designed to showcase the breathtaking beauty of the Arctic region. We've chosen to focus on less-traveled routes, avoiding the more popular areas of Lyngen that can get crowded.

Arrive in Tromsø and check into your hotel.
We recommend arriving in Tromsø on Saturday for your first night. If your flight schedule doesn't allow for this, you can find additional accommodation. We're happy to suggest some places if you need help!
After pick-up, we’ll head straight into our first tour in the Lyngen Alps on the way to our log cabin accommodation in Målselv. We’ll choose from various options, taking into account the avalanche forecast, snow conditions, and wind direction.
Senja, located between Lofoten and Tromsø, is a true Norwegian gem, known for its dramatic coastlines, towering peaks, and charming fishing villages. Often referred to as ‘Miniature Norway,’ the island offers a stunning mix of landscapes that embody the essence of the country.
We’ll time our visit to catch the best weather window, aiming for a summit-to-sea descent with spectacular views of Senja’s coastline. Most of the peaks we’ll climb are around 900 meters high, and depending on the group’s preferences, we can add more summits or repeat laps on a single peak.
Tamokdalen, also known as Tamok Valley, is a 30-kilometer stretch in Troms, Norway, with a valley floor at 200 meters and peaks rising to 1600 meters. Both sides of the valley provide excellent ski-touring opportunities, allowing us to select the best route based on avalanche risk, snow, and wind conditions.
The combination of higher mountains, colder temperatures, and the valley's continental climate often results in excellent snow conditions.
The peaks near our cabin reach up to 1500 meters, offering a range of ski tour options with mountains all around us. Our base is a husky farm, so if conditions permit and the dogs are ready, we can even access our ski tour by dog sled.
(Dog sledding is an optional activity, depending on availability, with pricing to be settled once we arrive in Norway.)
We’ll head back to either Senja or Tamokdalen, based on which location we enjoyed most and where the snow conditions were ideal.
On our way back to Tromsø, we’ll either take on some of the Lyngen peaks or organize a speedboat trip to Kågen Island. There, we can ski different aspects of remote peaks, all while surrounded by the ocean.
(Kågen is an optional activity, depending on availability, and the cost will be determined once we're in Norway.)
Accommodation
Our log cabin in Målselv, near a Husky farm, offers a relaxing stay with a sauna. Located close to top touring spots, it includes an open living room, kitchen, and 3 bedrooms.
Disclaimer
Participants should have previous ski touring or splitboarding experience (at least 3 tours) and be able to manage 1000 vertical meters per day for 3 days in a row. One rest day is fine, but taking more may impact your experience.

Mountain Guide
Hi, I’m Vojta, welcome to our profile! We are a small and specialized guiding company based out of the Czech Republic, dedicated to offering freeriding and ski-touring trips mainly to Japan and Norway. We run powder camps and tours across the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu in Japan. In March every year, we move to arctic Norway and run Ski and Sail expeditions around Lyngen Alps. We started as a group of friends guiding in Japan in 2013 and we still beleive you should feel like you are riding with friends on our trips. The tours are flexible with the single purpose of skiing in the best snow and finding the best lines possible. We have strong area knowledge of the terrain and go the extra mile to provide you with an unforgettable experience. Our trips not only include skiing, but also delicious food and local culture as you improve your skills as a backcountry skier or snowboarder.
On our trips, you will be guided by Czech and Slovak UIAGM Mountain guides & Ski Guides (Robert Vrlák, Peter Koteles, Daniel Menšík, Vojta Lím, or Tomáš Prajzler)
If you don't find what you are looking for, get in touch, we will be happy to help and welcome you on board!

Awesome experience, sailing between amazing isolated backcountry tours. Definitely a fantastic week!

The skiing trip encountered several issues, starting with unmet itinerary promises such as night skiing and the advertised average of 10,000 vertical meters of skiing. Despite a smooth booking process and excellent pre-trip information, the trip's delivery fell short. The guide we had was notably unprofessional, affecting the group's experience negatively due to his behavior and lack of fitness. Also, the inability to choose between advertised group levels and the inclusion of unfit participants further marred the experience. The house we hade provided comfortable accommodations, yet disparities in lodging quality between the groups without price adjustments was not fair. Breakfast was a highlight and the Sherpas staff was really nice. Overall the trip, despite its potential, was ultimately disappointed due to significant shortcomings in execution and leadership.

Great all round trip with great guides.
We had a fantastic ski and sail trip with Sherpas Ride! The views and ski lines were memorable. Vojta kept us safe and smiling the whole trip!
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
