The wild and picturesque Austrian Alps await you on this 8-day mountaineering course, which will see you perched upon the summit of Wildspitze by the end of the week!
Our adventure begins with a bit of learning as we get you up to speed on a variety of essential mountaineering techniques, including knot tying, belaying, and crampon and ice axe usage.
We will practice belaying and maneuvering on the Ziegelwies wall, which is a 20-minute hike from our hotel in Füssen, before packing up the next day and heading out to Piztal in Tyrol. Once we arrive at the trailhead, we will ascend over the Taschach glacier and onto the Taschachhaus mountain hut.
We will get an early start the next day and put some of our newly acquired skills to the test as we climb the Sexegerten Spitze. This peak is perfect for learning by doing and, as we go along, we will learn how to tie in, and mountaineer in the most energy-efficient manner and climb a Via Ferrata.
After another day of learning different anchoring and safety techniques, we will get an early start and make our way back over the Taschach glacier and on to Tyrol’s tallest peak – Wildspitze.
After taking in the breathtaking views from the summit, we will head back down to the mountain hut and enjoy a well-deserved evening of great food and even better beer. The next morning, we will have a brief session learning self-rescue techniques before heading back to the hotel in Füssen and saying our goodbyes.
So what are you waiting for? Book now for your epic mountaineering experience in the heart of the Austrian Alps!
If you like the look of this trip then we think you will also enjoy our 8-day ice climbing expedition in the Dolomites!
We will meet at 6 pm in Füssen im Allgäu (Germany) to check our gear and learn the essential knots.
We will hike from Mittleberg to Taschachhaus (2,440 m), check in, and then head out to learn how to belay and maneuver on the rocks with heavy approach shoes.
From Taschachhaus mountain hut, we will head to Taschachferner (The Taschach glacier) and practice walking on snow and ice, using an ice axe and crampons, and self-arrest.
Getting an early start, we will climb our first alpine summit: Sexegerten Spitze (3,400 m). We will work on energy efficiency. ( 1,000 m elevation gain, 5-6 hours hike, short section of via ferrata at the beginning)
We will learn different anchor and rescue systems that are essential for safe mountaineering.
We will wake up at 4 am and climb to the summit of Wildspitze via Taschachferner. Evening celebration at the hut.
We will stay around the Taschachhaus hut and learn some self-rescue techniques then return to Füssen.

Thank you! It was really fantastic! I learned a lot and will keep at it - I have to say that ice, especially mixed and dry, is almost more fun than rock. Thank you for the super week and the great hotel! See you soon!
