Few islands in the world pack so much beauty, wonder, and interest than Ilha Grande, just off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
The rugged island is scarred with a macabre history while possessing raw outstanding beauty.
The pristine island has been out of reach for visitors for centuries, having been used as an isolated place for a leper colony.
Then later its solitary location was thought to be ideal for holding one of Brazil’s most infamous high-security prisons, Candido Mendes. Yet the facility closed in 1994 before slowly opening to tourism.
Given its curious history, much of the island remains untouched and undeveloped, leaving you with a sense of trekking among wild pristine landscapes.
Almost all of the island is blanketed in rainforest while hosting one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the whole of South America.
This 7-day trekking experience blends elements of white sandy beaches and thick lush jungle, home to waterfalls and ravines, jagged peaks and endemic wildlife.
Some species are threatened such as the pig-like white-lipped peccary, the woolly spider monkey, and the iconic jaguar, all symbolic of the region.
Cross rivers and ascend the mountains, stick to trail paths and explore the sandy coast. And get to know the local fishing villages, or caiçaras.
Get in touch now to reserve your place on the island paradise of Ilha Grande for a 7-day trekking adventure off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

Tour Operator
The year 2010 marked the beginning of a journey of creation of Nattrip, our company. Accessibility to ecotourism and adventure tourism was restricted, especially in Rio de Janeiro. There were still severe restrictions of public use to the existing Conservation Units, which went some way against what the world was experiencing. While other countries created policies to increase protected area visitation in an attempt to increase preservation, using the “understand to protect” approach, Brazil believed that prohibiting access was the best way to protect.
Thanks to the work of some conservation, tourism and sports entities, as well as some spheres of public power, this premise has gradually changed, giving space to a greater offer of experiences in the natural environment.
We understand that people, whether tourists or residents, needed tours and specialized services to practice the activities that these places provide. This is to promote a healthy life and generate environmental knowledge by insertion into the environment, creating a basis for environmental sustainability, responsibility, mutual conviviality, and protection.
That’s when we decided to create a company specialized in the eco-adventure segment, which could promote the sector with responsibility. A way of entertainment that creates environmental education by osmosis. However, the mission of Nattrip was beyond just being a company that provides nature and adventure tours.
We design the company’s performance in all aspects of tourism in Brazil, aiming to be a company of national reference, which can translate into quality assurance. Today Nattrip is one of the main agencies and operators of receptive tourism in Rio de Janeiro, a respected adventure operator in Brazil and has been showing all its power in the corporate, educational and travel segments.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
