There is no better setting than the Douro river and International Natural Park for a kayaking expedition. From deep granite valleys to lush Mediterranean pastures, join us for 7 days of exploring spectacular scenery.
This area is relatively secluded. So, for most of the trip, we’ll be the only people around, both on and off the water. This means we’ll be able to enjoy the unspoiled spectacular nature all to ourselves.
The Douro River and surrounding areas are full of diverse and beautiful landscapes and flora and fauna. We’ll find beautiful Mediterranean vineyards and orchards bearing fruits, as well as dramatic rocky cliffs that we’ll paddle beneath.
During the trip, we’ll alternate between kayaking and hiking so that you get the best out of your time on the Douro. The area is also rich in history so we’ll take the time to explore the villages that sit close to the river.
We’ll also stay in interesting and comfortable accommodation, from an artist’s home to a repurposed old school.
This is one trip you do not want to miss. Request to book now and join me on the river for an unforgettable kayaking experience.

We’ll start the day by checking in to a charming country house. Then, we’ll hike to São João das Arribas. From the chapel in the town, we’ll get amazing views of the Douro gorges. That night we’ll all eat together for the first time and enjoy the local food.
We’ll visit Miranda do Douro, a historic river town. We’ll then take to the water and move between the deep granitic gorges in our kayaks. We’ll take in all the different colors as we go, and as the sun gets lower in the sky the light on the water becomes even more beautiful.
On day 3 we’ll start at Picote Dam. This is one of the seven wonders of the Trás-os-Montes area and is a beautiful valley. We’ll spend the night in accommodation which was once a school and has amazing views.
On this part of the trip, we’ll paddle around awe-inspiring cliffs and rock faces. We’ll then move into greener, more lush scenery rich with Mediterranean vegetation. If you’re lucky you may be able to grab a piece of fruit as you kayak by the shore. We’ll stop for a picnic on shore. Then we’ll spend the night in sculptors home where you’ll be able to admire the works of art.
With the sculptor’s house as our base, we’ll head out hiking, visiting the village of Mogadouro. We’ll learn about the history of the area from the Mesolithic to the XVIIIth century. There are both vineyards and olive plantations in the area and we’ll take the time to visit them. We’ll then hike to higher viewpoints and even see vultures.
As we return to the water, the valley widens. We’ll pass orange groves and vineyards that have existed for centuries. We’ll eat lunch in the shelter of weeping willows and admire Paleolithic Rock Art. We’ll reach Congida which turns into a peaceful lake. We’ll finish the day with a visit to historic Freixo de Espada a Cinta village.
On our last day, we’ll head back to Porto together where we’ll leave you with your many wonderful memories of the trip.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
