Suusamyr Valley, in the Tian Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan, is elevated at 2000-2500 metres above sea level and is a truly magnificent spectacle to behold.
Located 130km from the capital Bishkek, the Suusamyr river runs through the valley and gives life to the myriad different colourful flowers of the summer.
In the winter this gives way to a white blancket of deep powder snow and in so doing, creates an excellent environment for snowshoeing.
Snowshoeing is hiking in the snow but with specially made expansive shoes, they distribute your weight and allow for easy passage through the snow.
With this method of movement we can explore deep into mountain ranges and move efficiently whilst enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
The Suusamyr Valley provides quality snow for our hiking, breathtaking views over the mountains and charming locals from whom you can observe traditional, rural Kyrgyzstani life.
After meeting in Bishkek our first 2-3 days will be spent at the old Soviet meteorological station which lies at an altitude of 3600m and is surrounded my mountains up to 4,500m.
After a few days enjoying this wilderness we will move onto a new ski tour and paragliding base that is located a few hours hike away.
This trip will include some avalanche training, whilst less likely when snowshoeing it is still an important aspect of winter mountain explorations.
Our program is always weather dependant and I will change the route if it is deemed necessary due to inclimate weather conditions.
This is a fantastic opportunity to discover a pristine and little known corner of the world. Sign up now and don’t miss the chance to explore real wilderness by snowshoe and observe fascinating local cultures!
If this trip excites you then consider this fantastic one week snowshoeing trip in Irdyk Gorge and Jyrgalan Valley! Or if you’re keen to explore this region but not keen on snowshoeing then consider this amazing 7-day mountaineering course in Tuyuk Su gorge, Kyrgyzstan!

Mountain Guide
We invite you to open the world of high and wild mountains
Our bureau was created by professional mountain guides Pavel Vorobiev and Anastasya Cheremnyh, both local IFMGA certified guides and Snow Leopards.
We have been working in the mountains for many years and have extensive guiding experience. In addition, we know this region of Central Asia very well. Based on our experience and your wishes, we will be able to tell you where to find the best snow for an amazing ski touring program or where to find the best rock or the best ice for an unforgettable climbing trip.
We take guide selection very seriously. We know each of the guides we work with personally after having worked and climbed with them many times. Most of them are IFMGA-certified guides, Snow Leopards and members of the Kyrgyz Mountain Guide Association (KMGA). All of them are professionals with extensive experience.
These are some of the guides in our team:
- Oleg Turaev: IFMGA and KMGA-certified, he has participated in many mountain rescues and is one of the most experienced guides in Central Asia.
- Sergey Seleverstov: IFMGA and KMGA-certified. He is also a Snow Leopard. He has climbed more than 20 mountains over 7000m.
- Artur Usmanov: IFMGA and KMGA-certified and also a Snow Leopard. He stood on a summit over 7000m 12 times.
We offer standard programs, but all of them can be adapted depending on your wishes and experience. Our philosophy is pretty simple: 1) safety, 2) a fun and positive experience for our guests and 3) reaching the summit.
Apart from the Tien-Shan & Pamir mountains, we successfully guide our guests in the Andes, Africa, the Caucasus, the Alps and the Himalayas

The guides (Pavel and Anastasia) were fantastic. They were very knowledgable and accommodating, particularly with such a large group of relatively inexperienced hikers. I can not recommend them highly enough to anyone thinking of a trip to Kyrgyzstan and the surrounding mountains

I learnt a lot through this short mountaineering course and hope to take these new skills to new mountains and new heights! The highlight of this program was actual summit climb of 4000 Mt mountain in winter in - 25 deg cel. I'm grateful to my guide Kirill B , chef and team at Central Asia Guides for making this possible.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
