Located in the north-central area of the Cordillera Blanca and inside the Huascaran National Park, the Huascaran Mountain is highest summit of Peru and the fifth in the American Continent. The northern peak is 6,655 meters above sea level and the southern peak is the highest point the country with 6,768 meters. It is a very well known challenge for mountaineers around the world.
For all climbers who wish to reach its highest summit, the Huascaran offers to routes: the normal route and the escudo route. We’ll start our 6-day expedition in Huaraz. During the ascent, we’ll experience an elevation gain of 3,740 meters from the trailhead and 750 meters from the highest camp. As you can see, this climb is intense and requires a good level of fitness and previous mountaineering experience.

We’ll drive during one hour and a half from Huaraz to Musho, a little village in the Ancash region. From there, we’ll hike up to the Base Camp (4,200 meters) for 4 to 5 hours.
We’ll take a 5 to 6 hour hike first to the Moraine Camp and then to the High Camp (5,400 meters).
On day 3, we’ll ascend to the High Camp 2 (6,000 meters) for about 5 to 6 hours.
After an 11 to 13 hour hike, we’ll reach the summit of the incredible Huascaran.
We’ll start the descent to the High Camp, going through the Moraine Camp until the Base Camp. This we’ll take us around 4 to 6 hours.
On our last day, we’ll return to Musho (4 hours) and then drive back to Huaraz.

Percy Williams Dextre Henostroza who is a member of the Peruvian Mountain Guide Association (AGMP) for over 17 years and is fully certified by the Unión International Association of Mountain Guide (IFMGA-UIAGM). Percy who hails from a family of mountaineers, has worked and climbed all over Peru honing his skills over many years in the mountains.
