Description
Monte Rosa is a stunning ice-covered massif located in the Alps. It stands right at the border between Switzerland and Italy. Its main peak is Dufourspitze. And it as five other magnificent subsidiary peaks: Signalkuppe, Zumsteinspitze, Nordend, Dunantspitze and Grenzgipfel.
This incredible massif is the highest peak in Switzerland. At 4,634 meters of height, it is also the highest one in the Pennine Alps.
The terrain that surrounds Monte Rosa is famous for all its glaciers. In fact it is one of the largest glacier areas in Switzerland, Italy and the whole Alps region. So, we’ll visit many of them throughout our journey.
Two of the amazing highlights in this trip are the Findel Glacier and the Horn Pass. But there will be many other surprises waiting for us. Let me guide you across these winter landscapes that seem to be out of a dream!
Another great thing about this area is that even during the early days of summer, fresh snow keeps falling. Due to the glaciers around, the area remains cold. Hence, the quality of snow here is amazing. So, on top of the hypnotizing views we’ll get, we will also have the chance to experience some of the best skiing descents!
Moreover, we’ll be staying in the new Monte Rosa mountain hut. This charming and comfortable refuge is located strategically, so you can complete several tours using it as a hub.
We will encounter some steep climbs along the way. So in order to participate in this trip you need to be able to control your skis in all different kinds of snow. - Aside from the guide fee, the price includes: accommodation plus half board/tea/Sandwich as lunch in Sac Monte Rosa Hut, accommodation plus breakfast/tea/sandwich as lunch at the hotel in Zermatt in double room with shower/WC
Itinerary
Day 1: Zermatt
We will meet at the designated point. Then, we’ll get a delicious dinner at the hotel in Zermatt.
Day 2: Breithorn
On this day you’ll get to ride a cable car to the Klein Matterhorn. Then we wil climb the Breithorn (4156 m). Also, we’ll ski across the Schwarztorstrasse to the Monte Rosa Hut. (2883 m).
Day 3: Ludwigshöhe-Duforspitze
This day will be full of adventures. We’ll ski towards Ludwigshöhe (4341 m) or Duforspitze. Then, an impressive downhill descent will take us directly back to the Monte Rosa hut.
Day 4: Cabanna Margherita
We will border the glacier and reach the highest hut in the Alps, the Cabanna Margherita (4554m). And we’ll return to the Monte Rosa Hut.
Day 5: Findel Glacier to Zermatt
On our last day we’ll head towards the Findel Glacier, passing the Sockhorn pass. Then, I’ll guide you back to Zermatt.

I love the mountains and they have been my destiny and my passion for more than 20 years now!
Everyday I feel a big gratitude to work in this outstanding landscapes and being able to inspire my clients - we always have a good time together and make it a unique experience!
I am based in Schaffhausen, a nice historic town in the north of Switzerland and the area of lake constance. From here we have all options, whether it be one-day-trips to eastern- and central alps or whole journeys to foreign countries.
My second base is the small town of Arolla, Valais - all high peaks of the alps are around this area. It is exactly between Zermatt and Chamonix, a perfect place to be...I love the contrast of the different cities!
Together with my team and friends from BERIE alpine school we want to invite you to join our climbs and skiing trips or our trekking trips around the world. In high altitude mountains, I have lot of experience, working many years in this game with well-established partners, for example as guide on Mount Everest (Summit success 2003 with 7 members).
In my program you will find fine mountain journeys with or without skis. We will offer you not just the climb and a summit successes! Mountains are not gyms!

Weather didn’t play ball. But Hermann managed to change schedule a few times for a weather window. We got beautiful 😍 sunshine but it changed to winter 🥶 making the routes out of limits. We were the only 2 trying. Tried the Monch and further up knew it was dangerous with fresh deep snow. I still had a great 2 day trip in a winter wonder land. And summited a smaller peak. It was 2 windy 🌬️ for anything else.
