Description
Running straight across the country, the Kom-Emine trail is the section of the E3 European long distance route situated in Bulgaria and makes for the perfect ski touring destination in the winter.
Perhaps one of the most stunning parts runs through the Balkan Mountains, in the center of the country.
It is here that we will head out on a 5-day hut-to-hut tour, passing over some of the range’s highest peaks and enjoying the area’s immense natural beauty.
Starting from the Zlatinski pass, we will ski through the range, heading up four different mountains and enjoying impeccable views as well as great descents.
This trip takes us way out into the backcountry of the Stara Planina, where we will see few other skiers, which means there is plenty of unspoiled powder for us to enjoy!
While none of the skiing is very technical, the route can be quite exposed making it difficult in windy conditions, but overall this trip is perfectly appropriate for a fit intermediate ski tourer.
Among the various highlights of the trip comes on the fourth day, after we climb Vezhen peak and get to enjoy a nice, long and scenic descent. However, there are plenty of other memorable moments as well!

Day 1: Zlatishki pass - Svishti plaz hut
A shorter day since we spend the morning transferring to the beginning of the trail.

Day 2: Svishti plaz hut - Paskal peak - Momina polyana hut
12 km/ +700 m/-650 m
Day 3: Momina polyana hut - Vezhen peak - Vezhen hut
This is the hardest day of the trip.

Day 4: Vezhen hut - Vezhen peak - Iumruka peak - Eho hut

Hello all, my name is Zhivko, and I am an IFMGA Mountain Guide from Bulgaria, a member of the EEMGA. I am working as a guide full time, not only in my home country but also in a lot of different areas abroad, covering all the aspects of mountaineering: rock and ice climbing, summer and winter mountaineering, glacier travel, ski touring and splitboarding, etc. Apart from that, I am also a mountain rescue instructor and a snowboard instructor, and I organize different group and individual activities or educational programs.I mainly work with personal trips on demand, but am into different options, and you are very welcome to meet me on any of them.

I think that Zhivko is absolutely brilliant in his role: always providing professional insight and mental support.
