The Canadian province of Alberta offers a unique remote location for winter sports, particularly in the region along the British Columbia border. Banff National Park and the surrounding mountains and countryside is considered a prized destination for skiers, snowboarders, and snow enthusiasts. The Wapta Traverse – the original hut-to-hut traverse in Canada – provides steep runs, glacier travel, and prime ski mountaineering terrain for a world-class experience.
Your program will begin by skiing into Bow Hut to start the journey. This four- to five-hour trip features the best aspects of the remarkable terrain and gives us ample time once we’ve reached the hut to explore the area. With plenty of peaks in the neighborhood, a summit attempt is not out of the question.
The second day has us heading to the Balfour Hut via some of the most notable geoformations in the region. We can travel between St. Nicolas and Olive Peaks through a high col, with a possible summit of either mountain. The Vulture Col is also a great option with some heart-pumping challenges and amazing routes to explore. You will have run after run in premium snow – the powder that western Canada is known for.
On the following morning we will continue to search for the best snow conditions for you to enjoy. The entire day is devoted to Mt. Balfour. The Balfour High Col is an outstanding objective for passionate ski mountaineers and, combined with a summit of its namesake peak, enhances an already-unforgettable trip.
The final evening is spent at the Scott Duncan Hut, where you will prepare to ski out to Sherbrooke Lake the next morning. When all is said and done, you will pass through three classic huts, admire the alluring glaciers of the Rockies, including the Diablaret Glacier, and ski tour through the amazing nature that is specific to Canada.
This program requires a high proficiency in skiing and some backcountry or touring experience. You should also be in good shape and prepared for sustained travel each day through the mountains.
Canada’s wilderness is an experience, and I am thrilled to show you the ins and outs of its vast beauty. Our goal will be a fun, safe, and completely satisfying trip that will leave a lasting impression on you as one of the best ski programs of your life.

Guide cancelled within 48 hrs and I was unable to find someone else and so far I’ve not been refunded. Put a small dent in my otherwise great trip to Revelstoke.

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned alot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!
